Please, Help me. I installed X3 Producer, but only 7 GB of SSD space was used, not 20 GB.
Can somebody help me by asking specific questions to see if everything installed correctly? Like, "for Dimension Pro you should see this (or these) named files (just to name 1 or 2) in this folder." "For Rapture full installation you should see this (or these) files in this particular folder." "The total sample content for XLN drummer should amount to so many GB and be located in "this" folder," etc, etc. Can somebody do this for me? Please!?! My Used space on my SSD was 36 GB before Sonar X3 Producer installation, and after installing all the files (to my knowledge) my used space is only approaching 44 GB. To my knowledge, I downloaded every file I was supposed to and allowed Sonar's installation program do all its defaults, with all the components (all checked on) to the folders it recommended. All the .exe files were located in the same folder on my D:\ when I began the installation. I then installed Dimension Pro with its expansion packs (I believe), Rapture, Melodyne, XLN drummer. But something just does not seem right. I have used the very powerful program "Search Everything" to look for key words on my computer to see if somehow I can find these programs and it seems like references exist for them all, but the content folders seem very thin. I've read in the User Guide that some of the Session Drummer samples are approaching 1 GB. It seems to me that all this sample content is missing, but I don't know how to verify. Can I run certain installation files again and will Sonar alert me that those things have already been installed and stop me from doing something that is unnecessary? Please help.

Thanks for that completely non-helpful remark. I already stated that Cakewalk claims that the install should take 20GB, and mine only used 7GB.

I know that there is extra content that is downloaded, like some sound content stuff or something from the X2 days.(sorry, it's been a while and I can't remember exactly) Those things don't install automatically with X3. You have to do it separately. Also, for the XLN Addictive Drums, you have to go to XLN's website, create an account, and register your copy of AD. Then you install from their website. Hope that helps.

Also, I don't know if you had Dimension Pro already before installing X3, but it is the same version with the same sounds. So it merely would have replaced your current copy, so you wouldn't see the 2Gb (or whatever size it is) from that.

Hey Leadfoot, thanks for your reply. This is a brand new installation for me, no past stuff being upgraded. I did the XLN drummer install just as you wrote.
I'm wondering why Cakewalk claimed the 20 GB install to do it right.
I'm reading the User Guide now to learn how to use the software and take advantage of all the extra programs and once I have figured it out, I will try and see if the content for the Session Drummer, XLN drummer, Rapture, Dimension Pro, etc, are in place or not. That's all I can do if Cakewalk or a knowledgeable user does not give me something specific to go on.

Stats from my installation will do no good. Are the 32bit and 64bit versions installed? If not, which version was installed? If this is a default installation, detail the sizes of the folders in C:\Cakewalk and C:\Cakewalk Content. About half the size of the installation is the "Audio Library" in Cakewalk Content and the DimPro library in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples". The sample content for Session Drummer by default is in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Session Drummer\Contents\Kits".

SCook, I did the 64-bit clean install for Windows 7 Professional. I do not have a "Cakewalk" folder off the root drive. I do have Cakewalk Content and Cakewalk Projects off the root drive. I cannot recall now, but I know I selected 64-bit when choosing between the two, but might I have inadvertently chosen to NOT install 32-bit stuff when I should have?
C:\Cakewalk\Content has 3 folders in it, Audio Library, MIDI Library, and SONAR X3 Producer. The Audio Library only has \Loops and \One Shots in their folders and files are .WAV files. I do have the Dimension Pro folder, but it is a slightly differently location than yours. Mine is at C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples\Dimension Pro\ and then there are 143 items in that folder (.sfz and .flac files) I do have content in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Session Drummer \Contents\Kits folder. Some files end with the extension .kit, others end in .sfz, and still other end in .flac
I guess this is good news. I am looking now for a good utility program to analyze the size of my folders including sub-folders and their files. Give me a little while to get back. :)
Any idea off the top of your head why Cakewalk would claim 20GB needed for install, while mine only used 7GB?

Sorry about the C:\Cakewalk folder, this should have been "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" the folder containing the programs and plug-ins. Cakewalk Content should also contain rx2 fies in the Loops directory. 64bit ony is fine. It would require two passes through the installer to get both 32bit and 64bit. Just trying to get a handle on what has been installed. Cakewalk Sound Center is a DimPro and Rapture player. It segregates content by synth source. This is not the same as installing Dimension Pro. If there are no rx2 files in "C:\Cakewalk Content\Audio Library\Loops" then the "Loops and One Shots" were not installed. If there is no "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro" then Dimension Pro was not installed. This means only the 02_SONAR* files were installed, about half the full installation. The 03_Loops* and 04_Dimension* files are not installed. See the link at the bottom of http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013359/SONAR-X3-Download-Installation-Instructions for a complete list of the files to install. Don't forget to also download the X3e update http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013361/SONAR-X3e-Update

Here are the size totals for all 4 main folders having to do with Sonar X3:
C:\Cakewalk\Content\ -- 2,252 MB (Audio Library -- 1,238 MB)
C:\Cakewalk\Projects\ -- only 39 MB C:\ Program Files\Cakewalk\ -- 3,176 MB C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk -- 1,277 MB
Total = less than 6 GB Does that not make bells & whistle alerts go off in your mind?

I do have 1740 rx2 files installed, 3/4 of them in the C:\Cakewalk Content\Audio Library\Loops\
The other 1/4 of them are in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\ So I guess my Loops & One Shots have been installed.

I don't think so. There is over 4GB of content in "Loops and One Shots" that is placed in "C:\Cakewalk Content".

Since I have some rx2 files, what do you recommend I do? Can I attempt to run the 02 SONAR X3 Producer part 2.exe file (it was supposed to do this automatically and ask me if it did not find the next file) ?
Is there any danger in attempting to pick up at this stage and try installing files (even randomly)?

Everything is fine so far. No need to re-run the 02_SONAR series. The 03_Loops* and 04_Dimension* are separate installers. Download 03_Loops_And_One_Shots.part1.exe 03_Loops_And_One_Shots.part2.exe 03_Loops_And_One_Shots.part3.exe 04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe 04_Dimension_Pro_1.5_Expansion_Packs.zip then run 03_Loops_And_One_Shots.part1.exe 04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe then unzip and install 04_Dimension_Pro_1.5_Expansion_Packs.zip then apply the X3e update (see link above).

I did all this a couple days ago (the things you just wrote to do). I hope nothing goes wrong trying again.
I suppose if it's a big mess, I can use System Restore point.
And I did run the X3e patch, and when I open Sonar and look at the About file, it shows X3e installed.

It is easy to uninstall, no need to return to a restore point. I believe the confusion is expecting the 03 and 04 files to install themselves by running the 02 installer. These are different installers which much be kicked off separately. The first one in the 02 and 03 files launch the others in their series. It is clear over 4GB of content and DimPro are missing. Both are separate installers.

Scook, If I did already run the 03 and 04 installers, will there be any danger in trying to run them again?
Is the software smart enough to compare what it wants to do with what is already installed on the Drive?

No harm at all in running again. BTW, if 04 was run there would be a Dimension Pro entry in Programs in the Control Panel. If it were run and is not in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" then look in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk". If it is there then the 32bit version of DimPro was intalled. It would need to be run again to get the 64bit version installed. There would also be an icon on the desktop for DimPro and the plug-in would be in synths. The Control Panel will also show if the DimPro Expansion packs have been installed.

You also get icons to launch Dimension Pro and Rapture, so if you have those, then the installers ran. Please note that to complete registration of Dim Pro you need to either launch it stand-alone with 'Run As Administrator', or insert it to the synth rack in Sonar, where Sonar was launched with 'Run As Administrator'. Either way will work - it is a quirk of the installer for Dim Pro. Sonar registration also need to occur with Sonar launched with the 'Run As Administrator' option, as well. I don't recall what happens with Rapture. If it doesn't like your registration code, then you might want to launch it again in stand-alone mode also with the 'Run As Administrator' option. Bob Bone

Scook, and Robert, You have been extremely helpful. You were right in affirming that some things did not install. While "Loops & One Shots" looked familiar at first, it then went on to Part 2 & 3, and the number of files it installed this time was 3x as many as what were there before. Dimension Pro did NOT have an icon on the desktop, and also took longer to install then I remembered. It does have an icon now and I just registered it. Rapture was already on my desktop, and I had registered it. Here is the new final: C:\Cakewalk Content -- 6,651 MB C:\Cakewalk Projects -- 39 MB C:\Program Files\Cakewalk -- 6,921 MB C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk -- 1,277 MB Total = 14.888 GB Much better! Thanks much for holding my hand throughout all this. I really, really appreciate it. Thanks again! EDIT: Former Total value of 14.5 GB has just been updated. New total after installing add'l Rapture content as noted in subsequent post by SCook.

That looks better. FYI, Rapture is the last plug-in installed before the 02 installer launches Melodyne so it appears the 02 files all ran to completion. Don't forget to grab the extra Rapture content mentioned in #10 above. It is not included in the X3 installers.

How can I ever thank you, SCook?! You be sure to Email me if you are ever passing through St. Louis in the Midwest and I will buy you dinner. You like Outback steakhouse? :)
I just went and installed the extra Rapture content because you brought it to my attention, AGAIN. I deleted my Ghost file from an hour ago, and ran Ghost all over again to include the entire proper install of X3 Producer. That way, if I ever have to restore my drive, while my projects are stored on a different drive, there will not be any problems with the Project opening up and Sonar saying that something is missing (should I happen to have used the extra content from Rapture in one of those projects).
Yay.

Thanks, have not been in St. Louis since 2nd grade. I did use Google maps once to find one of the house I lived in near Jefferson Elementary, the house was on Overbrook. Still remember the phone number, EVergreen 2-9998. Backup and images are always a good idea. I also keep local copies of the installers.
