The Blood Sword

New tune that I'm working on. Collab with drm173, he did the basic melody and drums, I've expanded it.
Looking forward to seeing what Tony does with his ideas of this.

All feedback welcome.

Nice instrumentation, and arrangement on this. I dig it.

The mix over all to me sounds a bit harsh, and brittle. Like there is just way to much living above 8khz.
On a piece like this I personally would use a lot of low pass filters, and shelf'

    Gus,

Really well done, big fan of your orchestration.  Sounds really good.

Regarding the comment about harshness, before you start LPF'ing stuff, I would consider just EQ'ing your reverb bus, i.e. maybe pull it down to 8k to take away some of the reverb highs.     I think the instruments are OK as is, to me it sounds more like a reverb tweak would resolve.  That said, I think it is OK as is, very enjoyable listen.

When I get back to this I'll look the EQ on the verb too. :)

Nice work once again, Gus.  Different than some of your other tunes - less typical orchestral/new age-y and more in-your-face heavy with an orchestral component.   I like.

But for me the overall mix is also a bit harsh/over-compressed with a little "sizzle" that doesn't compliment your work.

I like the sound and melody.  Yes it could be over compressed but once you get past that, the music and arrangement is really good.  Nice job with a cool vibe.

I like the sound and the melody.  It could be compressed a bit more, but once past that, the music and arrangement are really good.  Nice job with vibrating things/strings.  I'm getting a cool, stimulating string/thing vibration? Very tingly... It reminds me of a bloody sword? But that's a different story, for a different day. Oh man, I'm sorry, I may have been thinking about my iPod cache? If so, I'm really sorry... It's a mistake anyone could make in this day and age.

Weird thing is I don't believe I added much compression. But I only ever listen through cans.

Always a pleasure to read your words Robbie. String/thing vibration, is this apart of the string theory?
