Gamekeeper's Thumb Surgery

Has anyone undergone this surgery?

I have been diagnosed with Gamekeeper's Thumb, or a chronic laxity of the ulnar collateral ligament of my right thumb, caused by forty years of playing guitar/piano.

The two procedures are reconstruction of the ligament, or fusion of the thumb joint.  Has anyone had any success/failure after these operations?  How did it affect their playing?

I make my living as a musician and a music tutor, so the outcome is critical to me, especially with a new baby on the way.

Any experience, anyone?

Your input would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonathan
