Sonar X3: No Vintage Channel VC64 plugin

Hi all,

Just as I was finishing up a mix - I discovered that Vintage Channel VC64 plugin (one of my favorite pieces of X2) is MIA in X3?    So... I reinstalled a X2 also figuring that the plugin scanner would pick it up.  Now I don't see it in my X2 installation either.  I assume I did something wrong?  Can someone set me straight?

Many thanks, ryan

For my system, in X2, it shows up in the Plugin Manager, under VST Audio Effects (VST), as VC-64, and in its Properties, its path and name are:

    "c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\VintageChannel\Vintage_Channel_VC64.dl"

Everything looks the same for it in the X3 Plugin Manager, as well.

Perhaps you could check the above location, and make sure it really is there, and you could also check to see if it was, for some reason, excluded.

I reinstalled X2 and got the VC64;  X3 then picked it up when I did a new VST plugin scan.  Problem is now when I used it in X3 it sounds very crackly in the audio even if I turn the VC's gain down.   What could be the problem?

Well, I re-ran the X2 installer and installed the 32-bit VC64 because that was the only one I could find.  I'm on WIndows 7/64 bit, and even after a reboot, when I use the VC in my X3 installation, it sounds very distorted and crackly.

So I tried to re-run my X3 installer, but it has no option for VC64 even in an advanced installation.

How are you using it in the project?
What is your ASIO Buffer Size set to?
    Are you using ASIO drivers?
    What is your audio interface?
What are your current Sonar-reported latency values?

I believe Bob is on the right track. I would to add the VC-64 is 32bit only. Lack of support is one reason the plug-in was dropped. The developer went out of business years ago and Cakewalk has been unable to contact him. It is not to late to stop relying on the plug-in.

+1 to scook's assessment.  I do not use VC-64, and wouldn't suggest that you do either, as it is essentially unsupported and therefore I don't trust placing it in any project of mine.

I also try to use only 64-bit plugins these days, whenever possible.

That's a shame.  the VC64 is my favorite of all the Sonar plugins.  I've used it on every project I've ever done in Sonar.

Is there a substitute that can do the same thing?   I've used the VC a ton over the years - it's my absolute favorite plugin.
