***AUTOMATION STUPIDITY***

...I am doing automation on a song, all audio except for SD3. I automated the first track, used latch mode and automated by sliding the faders in console view,---all was fine and dandy. I tried to automate the next track,---it shows that automation being written, but eliminates the audio, you can't hear it. After that, even after undoing the automation, the audio portion of the track is switched off somehow and I actually have to close the project and reopen to get the audio back (though the waveform is still there.) I tried in both latch and touch modes,---no dice. I know it is something stupid I am missing,---can anyone please help me with this issue? I thank you kindly in advance!
