It does sound nice. But for now I've drummed up all the cash I could possibly afford to spend on AD2, EZD2.

Do you hear the sound of horses neighing every time you load the kit?

Now been updated to version 2.0. the price now €12 but still a bargain. They have made several changes in the update making it more flexible and improving the interface. I must say it is really great for the price and one the best investments I have made in a while.

Thanks for refreshing the thread. If you don't scan this forum hourly you'll miss something...the demos do sound exceptional. Unfortunately, it requires K5, so I can't use it.

Bought ... couldn't resist at that price. These drums sound great, very raw and dry, just as you'd expect a nicely-recorded kit to sound. Probably my favorite Kontakt-based drums right now. Neigh!! Cheers, Eddie

Does it beat the Abbey Road kits?

For me, yes. I like how a lot of the NI / AR drums sound on their own, but I hardly ever use them in a mix. They just don't work very well for my tastes in general. This FB kit is better suited for modern rock / indie / country music, I think. A much more natural and real sound to my ears. One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to route the separate kit pieces to their own tracks in the multi-out version. The kick and snare are combined into one track in Kontakt's output section by default, as are both toms. Since you can unload individual pieces from the multi, I've been running 2 Kontakt instances with certain elements unloaded and getting separate tracks that way ... kind of a lame workaround, but seems to work for now. Other than that, the interface is nicely done. It's an amazing package for under $15. Cheers, Eddie

Hi guys, As an update to my previous note about the Kontakt routing with this kit, Henrik (FB dev) advised me that he combined mono kit elements (e.g. kick/snare) into a single stereo out, hard-panned left/right, in order to get around some weirdness with how Kontakt handles mono vs. stereo outputs. I'm not enough of a Kontakt guru to explain all that, but by simply re-routing each side of the combined outputs to separate DAW tracks, I now have each kit piece separated coming out of a single Kontakt instance. Life is good. I'm liking this set more and more -- I substituted the FB kit into a country-rock mix that had been using a combination of SD2 and SSD4/CLA samples and the mix sounds better now, with the possible exception of the toms that I was using from the Music City SDX. Perhaps with a bit more tweaking, I can get rid of those, too. Hard to believe that a $15 set is beating hundreds of dollars' worth of virtual drums, but it seems to be true for me in this case. Cheers, Eddie

I bought these, and I agree that they sit well in a mix. I think the problem is that too many of the other drum VSTs try to sound wonderful when soloed. These samples are sort of dull sounding on their own, but they react well to compression and so forth in a mix. I would suggest that you revisit AR and even SSD4 and turn off any effects and treat them as raw drum recordings. I think they mix much better that way, in the end. When I'm composing, I leave the effects on in the drum VSTs because composing to dead drums is boring . Once I'm ready to start mixing, I bounce each drum separately with all effects turned off, even panning. Regards, Dan

I see your point, Dan ... but I don't normally use the included fx in virtual drums. None of the Sonalksis stuff was on the SDX I had been using, for example. The thing about the FB drums is that they sound just like raw unprocessed tracks that you'd get from a live recording session using a good drummer, good gear, proper mic placement, and a relatively dry room. Much easier to deal with than samples that have been pre-processed to sound good on their own. I'm not ready to give up all my other drum software just yet, but seeing how nicely the FB package has worked so far is a good sign. Best $15 (or was it $16?) I ever spent! Cheers, Eddie
