Sonar X3's freeze feature
I am not sure if the freeze feature was available in sonar X2, if so, that's just how oblivious I can be at times.
Well yesterday and today I have been experimenting with it. I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results.
I have been hearing distortion in some of my Dimension Pro tracks for quite some time now and was unable to figure out where it was coming from.
Well this is what I did.
I first right clicked on a blank spot in the track parameters area and where it says "freeze" hover over that and click where it says freeze options. Then I unchecked "track effects" so the freeze routine would not include any track effects.
Even though this is unchecked I believe it still mixes down with the pro channel settings so i made sure all the light blue on buttons were gray (disabled) on that track in prochannel.
I moved any track envelopes to a blank wave track temporarily.
Then I double clicked in the track gain and track volume sliders to zero them and clicked the freeze button. I was shocked. Most of the waves were VERY LOUD! They did not register as such in the channel VU meter but they were way off the map once rendered with freeze. At one point I had to lower the channel volume to 9 to get the waveform to bounce over with freeze and make a reasonably healthy looking waveform.
Is there a trim volume I am unaware of here?
Not only does this free up my ASIO for better latency recording, it also unburdens my mastering software for less latency problems and it also shows me a visual reference of my actual instrument waves.
I will be using the freeze option a lot!
