help with recommendations for audio interface for SONAR home studio

Hello

my old Delta 1010LT soundcard and windows XP machine is old and flaky beyond belief. I'm plagued with problems with it. I keep using the XP machine to record on, because MAudio never wrote proper Windowds 7 drivers for the Delta card and it doesnt play nice with the sandy bridge i-7 processor. But its become apparent that either the Delta card or the Windows XP machine is deteriorating rapidly. Nothing but recording problems now.

My only real recourse now is to find a USB audio interface to run with my big super powered windows 7 machine. We run 8 live mics thru a Mackie mixer, plus a midi feed and I need to be able to record it all simulatenously. I have an Audigy soundblaster card.

I use SONAR hone studio 6.

Can anybody recommend something for me to look at that wont kill my wallet completely?

thanks

thanks. I could use a little more advice. I'm running Home Studio 6 on a windows 7 machine. Currently theres a cheap Audigy sound card in it.

I mix in this machine and its great. However, i was recording on my older machine, an XP with the MAudio Delta card in it. I have a 16 channel mackie mixer that uses 8 direct outs (TLR) and one midi out (electronic drums) that goes into the soundcard.

so thats really all i need. the mackie already has nice mic preamps... i need something to take 8 direct outs from the mixer and one midi in, and send it to SONAR for recording simultaneously. I'm also looking at the Focusrite 18i8, the little desktop unit. It might be able to do this and i dont need the mic preamps.

I still am not sure how these things work. Will an audio interface replace the soundcard in the windows 7 machine, so should I remove it and all its software before plugging in a USB interface?

    any advice?
