East West last versions issue

Hi guyz ....

Back few months agao i jumped on Fab four and QL brass ..... while Fabfour was Play 3 compatible , QL brass was only with play 4 ....so i installed play 4 and it was problematic .... i had some cpu spikes when moving and crackles ..

I recently jumped on ghostwriter and spaces ...And so i had to go play 4 again last version (i went back on 3  after the fist contact back when i boufght fab four and wasnt using ql brass because of it)

i jumped on those cause i've got feedback form cakewalk users that play 4 was working with zero issues :

Now i used it on the first serious project and i epxerienced the same beahvior , any east west stuff in the project and when i move my mouse (ven if their gui are closed) makes crakles and sometime cpu spikes ...

And to my surorises even spaces !!!

So this might be convolution related or gui related ....can't tell but some in this plugin interfer with graphic and its implementation versus asio ...

Can somebody check this out ...
sonar X1 D , 64 bits , Win 8.1 , RME UCX , no matter the buffer ...

I have EW symphonic orchestra Platinum and with PLAY 4 I experience some popping and noise and CPU spikes too.

    X3 Pro 64bit, win 7 Pro 64bit, SSD Drives, 32gb ram.

I just do not like PLAY with it's issues even small ones and EW lacking in accepting that the PLAY engine needs some programming love.  I gave up and use my other libraries now.

Quite honestly I have had issues for a while with PLAY and IF I could sell the EWSO library I would ditch it and get a bit of money to be used in another direction.

EW have a lot of PLAY libraries that look interesting to me and I might be interested in paying for those libraries but with the issues I have or have heard about and then experienced later myself I won't give EW any more of my money.

My experience with Play has been very problematic, I've used it since it came out, and by version 4 finally had enough and just wrote their stuff off as a loss, bought Kontakt and the Kirk Hunter stuff, and haven't looked back.

I never had the particular issue you are talking about but in my experience Play has different issues for different people on different setups. It is just not well written software. As for what to do about it... dunno man. I could never get EW to acknowledge my problem could be something with Play, they just blamed my system.

I have had some issues with them, but I "think" they have pretty much resolved themselves.

Problems I had, I kept getting a file missing error, the guy kept telling me to re-install Play I kept doing that, it didn't fix it.  Finally, I re-downloaded the samples for the Choir, and re-installed those, and that fixed it.  I think the first time I extracted or downloaded, some type of error happened, and not all the files actually installed.

I also had some issues where and instrument would stop playing, I think either my new soundcard or my fresh install fixed that.  Same with random popping and crackling.

That being said, I'm still very gun shy, and thinking about learning another DAW like reaper.  I've just got to much cash invested in their products to not make them work now.  Plus I really love some of the sounds.  Also, now that I got word builder actually working, it's pretty cool.

for those having crakcles and cpu spikes , and old libraraires get play 3 , it's all gone ....

i have to use play 4 since i got ghostwriter ....

a good thing would be to be able to have both version coexinsting ;...i might mess with the registry to do so....

I also found that increase buffer since like cray resolve the issue....so it's clear now that it introduces some high latency or it's super heavy on the asio drivers ..

By the way anybody tried on another daw ?

My crackling issues are actually gone right now.  So at least for now, I'm stable at the new version and Sonar X3.

If I do get issues again, I'm going to try in Reaper. I just need to learn how to open the synth rack in Reaper, lol.  I know how to insert a synth, but not to get back to it.  Groove 3, here I come.

One thing to be careful of with big buffers is that Play is ****ed and it can cause issues with stuck notes during bounce. Basically if you have a fast run, lots of notes one after another, you can see stuck notes with a high buffer setting. They verified this is an issue (using Cubase as well) and their solution was "ummm, lower the buffer size".

If you want to try another DAW I would try Cubase because that is what EW themselves seem to like. That is what they use internally for the most part.

I have found problems with fast bounce, I turn it off.  Also note, that quite often I choose load entire instrument into ram, but I'm running 24 gb, I know that's not an option for everyone.
