midi data won't playback while recording. [Solved]

New thing in X3e prodeucer that I haven't seen before in my sonar years. If I record arm a midi track that already has notes in it, and then start recording, the notes don't play. No midi activity on the midi track meter, and nothing on the audio track's meter either. The rest of the midi data in the project, which is not armed, plays fine. It does that for all the midi tracks though. During normal playback, no issues. Also, while recording, I can hear the instrument, just not the midi clips already present, but there's no midi meter activity at all, just noticed this. Any clues as to this odd behavior?

    There are different record modes. Comping/Over Write/Sound on Sound.
