Ryan - I think this worked.  I was able to setup and verify successfully.  I can't really test it right now since your forum seems to have lost its CSS on all my browsers - this one just happened to still be opened so I could see where to type :)
Thanks for your help.  If you don't hear from me further on the topic, then assume it got taken care of...

This should be fixed now. We've been dealing with this for a few versions of the forum software unfortunately. They are aware of the issue.

I can't get into any other forum other than X Series. If I go to Gear/Software, it starts loading the page, I see it come up with topics, then I am all of a sudden switched back here.

Question: What is suppose to be different about this new migration?

I did it.

I seem to create a new account. But where is this new account?

When I go to the CW store and sign in, the way I always did, I see the same things!?

What's suppose to be different?

I'm trying to recall; was the community forewarned of this change? I may have missed a thread, but it certainly would have been handy to know when this change was about to take place and what it would accomplish ~ or rather, what impact it could have if it has issues.

I just updated my post to link to Willy's announcement a few days back. Essentially there are more details regarding Single Sign On and what it means that can be found here http://forum.cakewalk.com/Cakewalk-Single-Sign-On-and-You-m3071249.aspx

Thanks. Still, short-notice. I thought I was probably ousted when the change was made because I didn't see the announcement.

Today you're just using this new account for the forum. You can also now view your registered products and downloads at http://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account and if you do please compare it to your list of products in the store - if something is off click the feedback link and please let us know.

You can read the announcement for more details on the why.

Thanks for the feedback - for the store roll-out I think we totally learned our lesson. Four days is not enough time so we're going to aim to announce at least the Monday before and give folks an entire week.

Just wanted to thank Mike in Customer Service for fixing what I had made a mess of earlier. After waiting a less than a minute on hold, he was able to reset my logon and the email and verification went smoothly this time. Great customer service. Everything seems to have transferred over as expected. Thanks for the help.

Sorry, but I still don't understand this.  (I do understand SSO and implemented it at a very large company.)  What I don't get is this:  I jumped through some hoops here, gave my Cakewalk password, gave my existing forum password, did all the steps, got email, etc.

Now I am still signing on to the forum with my old forum password and signing on to Cakewalk with my old Cakewalk password.  So, what did I accomplish?

See my post above. #159 and Willy's answer on post #161. Then go to the link Willy provides, sign in and look at the top and click on "Products" and you should see all your stuff. If not, hit the "Feedback" link next to the product link.

My understanding is that this is just step one of the process. If I understand things correctly, I think you'll find that down the track one password will access all areas, store, forums etc.

Exactly!

When you click on the link I Willy's post, and you are already signed in here on this forum, you will automatically go to your account page. Look next to the home button and you will see "Products" click that and see all your stuff, without signing in again!

This may not be the place for this question, but since I am renewing "myself" here, how can I change me user name? Pentimento Sound was my studio from 2000 to 2006, but it is closed and (if I open another one ....)I would like to change my user name.
My updating went fine after I saw this thread, otherwise I would still be thinking something happened to me, alone.

Hi Ryan,

I am also "locked out". I had to create a whole new account in order to post here.

My "old" username is PJH and I did migrate my account successfully until I received the "validate" email. I clicked the link, copied it into my browser, deleted my cache, cookies etc but no success.

I looked at the manual validation but have not received a validation code so I can't go down that route either.

Please can you assist by sending me a validation code or resetting my account?

I'd still like to use my old username etc.

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi Michael,

Willy and I just discussed the technical implications of it and how our membership roles work. For now, the answer is unfortunately that we can't. We'll look into adding the option in the future though.

In the meantime, there is nothing preventing you from creating a new user account if you want to move on from your old one.

Hi Ryan,

Just tried to log in and I get the same error. It responds by saying that I'm using the wrong password. I also tried the validate link and I get the same "internet is broken" message.

You shouldn't have to validate now (I just did it for you) but if you're breaking the internet™ it might be that the link is getting truncated by your email client. Try copying/pasting it in versus clicking it.

In regards to the password, can you try resetting it at http://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/Lost-Password

Thanks, millzy.  That is fine and I am glad to work with Cakewalk on this.  Although the Cakewalk guys here are excellent, either the original post didn't explain well or—as is often the case—I was too thick-headed to get it.

In any case, things seem to work and I am alive, so all is good.

This has been a PIA.  Now that I have the passwords set up WTF. I have been using Windows IE and I have to log on every time I go off the page.  Login to Sonar forum, click on a thread and I am logged off and have to log on again before posting.  Go to Software forum, have to log on again.  Also, I could not post a message without getting  "Either the feature is disabled, or you do not have sufficient permission"  Before you could chose to stay logged on to the pc after at the logon.  That is gone.  I just now tried Firefox and no such problem exists using it when loggin on to the forum.  So I am posting now using Firefox.

This is quite telling and may be the source of some people's problems. I used Firefox and although it was certainly confusing it pretty much worked as it should have.

One recommendation... perhaps your IE security settings are logging you off/deleting the cookies that allow you to stay logged in. From my understanding even though the forum looks and behaves the same (when functioning normally) a lot of this is intended to improve security on the forum. Maybe some of the fiddling they've done in the background to achieve this is now no longer playing nice with however you have IE configured. I never use IE but as far as I can tell when you mess with your Internet settings in the Win Control Panel it is actually configuring IE (not necessarily any other browsers on the system).

Also the default Cookie/history permissions in the most recent versions of firefox are pretty lenient (allowing third party cookies, retaining them for longer than really needed, history being stored indefinitely, etc).

Just some thoughts but I'm sure the Bakers will be interested to get to the real root of the problem.

Good luck... and IMO Firefox is a far superior browser anyway. I'm just glad it started working properly with this forum after they upgraded it last year.

Cheers.

Thanks Beepster, I'll look into the IE settings.  Other sites that I log onto keep me logged on after logging in.  It's odd that this is happening only to Cake forums with my IE.  Think I might start using Firefox more.
