Announcer's test: Don Alverzo

Hello All-

I wanted to amaze my young nieces and nephews with a recitation of the "Announcer's Test", but have discovered a knowledge gap I feel I need to fill before doing so. Many of you probably have a recollection of this from your Cub Scout (or other youth group) days:

One hen
Two ducks
Three squawking geese
Four Limerick oysters
Five corpulent porpoises
Six pairs of Don Alverzo's tweezers
Seven thousand Macedonians dressed in full battle array
Eight brass monkeys from the ancient, sacred secret crypts of Egypt
Nine apathetic, sympathetic, diabetic old men on roller skates with a marked propensity for procrastination and sloth
Ten lyrical, spherical, diabolical denizens of the deep who haul stall around the corner of the quo of the quay of the quivery, all at the same time.

My question is: Who was Don Alverzo, and why did he have all those tweezers?

I have searched the internet, and the only Don Alverzo I found was somehow involved with Scientology, and something called the "Operation Snow White". I am not interested in this Don Alverzo (from the 1970's I think), but rather the original Don Alverzo from the 1940's or earlier when this version of the Announcer's Test seems to have come about...unless the two are truly linked. I wonder if D.A. #2 actually took that pseudonym FROM the Announcer's test.

The "Don" may possibly be a title of respect, rather than a contraction of the name "Donald". I don't know.

Thanks!

I don't know who Don Alverzo was, but I do know that a brass monkey is a metal triangle like you use in pool or snooker to set the balls on the table. They were bolted to the deck of ships to keep the cannon balls from rolling around so you'd never find one in an ancient Egyptian crypt, sacred or otherwise.

Alternative spellings I found are "Alverso's Tweezers" and the non-possessive variation "Alversos Tweezers".
