Media Browser clips bind to last used Synth for Preview for the clip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHWYHKqzcUY&feature=youtu.be

I made a video to show how the clips bind to the synth and I also discovered a way to unbind the clips so they can be re-bound to a different preview synth.

I'm partially targeting this at Craig Anderton because I made a post in his tips and tricks thread about this, asking the question. In making this video, I answered my own question.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I never knew about either the unconditional binding to the original clip you listened to, nor the how to unbind aspect...very cool. Thank you!

Every clip you audition binds to the selected preview synth until you close and reopen the media browser.

Glad I found this. The preview behavior confused me to no end, so I ended up bypassing it by dropping the files onto a track to preview (as also shown in the video). Now I understand better what happened and have a different workaround.
Intended behavior? Doesn't work the way I would have expected it at least.

Sonar X3 (studio, Steam distribution) / Music Creator 6 touch (Steam distribution). Rapture & Dimension Pro. Win 7 x64. 8 GB RAM.  CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K. System HD: 128 GB Samsung 830 SSD. Program / Project HD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12. Audio interface: Tascam US 122 MKII. Onboard sound: Realtek ALC887.

I have a feeling it will work differently in x4.

I just upgraded to X3 Producer.  I can't think why this would be intended behavior, and there's no indication in the documentation that it is (that I could find, anyway.) IMO, it makes auditioning MIDI clips via the Browser very clumsy and inconvenient. I haven't seen any Cake-produced videos that show it (not) working this way, either.

Thanks, gswitz!

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in the new SONAR?

I just tested it. I was able to switch previews for a MIDI loop between DimPro and Rapture. It appears to be fixed.

Great, thanks! It's the little things... (well, the little things & the big things !) One of the first things I tried with X3 was previewing MIDI drum loops in the Media Browser with Addictive Drums. They don't sound that great on a piano!
