[RESOLVED] SoundToys EchoBoy - X3 Crash
I just got a copy of EchoBoy by SoundToys but it's crashing X3e. Too bad, I wanted to play with it. Even inserting it in brand new audio track in an empty project causes X3 to crash. I don't know if there is a fix or not, but for now, I'm going to uninstall it. Has anyone used EchoBoy successfully in X3? Update: Running X3 as Administrator after installing EchoBoy resolved the problem, thanks!

I am still digging into things posted on the web - I CAN say that there are a number of reports of problems with it, but I have not yet seen a fix. Nonetheless, since the above poster has it working in X3e, there should be some kind of way for you too to have it work. I will keep looking. Can you please elaborate on your setup, as well as the exact version of EchoBoy you are using? And, is it 32-bit or 64-bit, and is Sonar 32 or 64 bit? Thanks, Bob Bone

More questions. Do you have an iLok USB key to run this? What exactly are the steps that take place when it crashes? Also, have you tried launching Sonar with the EXPLICIT option of Run As Administrator? According to the SoundToys web site, you may need to do this at least once, and they are looking into some sort of issue there. To launch Sonar with Run As Administrator is different than just being an administrator-level user for the computer. Right-click on the Sonar launch icon, and click on Run As Administrator. That will launch THIS instance of Sonar with that option. Should you choose to always run Sonar that way, right-click on the Sonar launch icon, click Properties, then Advanced, then check the Run As Administrator option, click Apply, and OK your way back out of it all - it may want confirmation that you really want to allow this - and that's fine. Once applied, Sonar would always launch with Run As Administrator. You can always undo that by going back in and removing the check, etc... Also, there are the following links you might want to look at: http://support.soundtoys.com/customer/portal/articles/1285974-what-applications-are-officially-supported-by-soundtoys- http://support.soundtoys.com/customer/portal/articles/1281835-why-am-i-getting-errors-on-my-pc- The first link shows Sonar X3 as a supported application for SoundToys, and the 2nd just talks about Run As Administrator. I will take some more time to look through web pages, searching for additional information on your issue. I also look forward to your providing the earlier requested information. Bob Bone

And, here was someone's Cubase issues with EchoBoy and their solution, again a Run As Administrator thing: "Ok, here is what I did to get EchoBoy working: Make sure the EchiBoy dll is in your plugins folder. Now launch Cubase with Admin rights by right clicking on the Cubase executable and selecting the "Open as Administrator" option (or similar verbiage.)
Now open the Plugin Information window in Cubase (from the Devices menu). Click the Update button. Cubase will now recognize EchoBoy. Quit Cubase and relaunch normally. You should now be able to open EchoBoy.
Note that you still can't save presets from within the plugin. It's a permissions issue. So just save your presets as Cubase presets instead for now. Hopefully SoundToys will get this sorted out shortly." Bob Bone

If you are trying to run Sound Toys in 32 bit you'll have to go into the plugin options and tick the Opcode error 19 box. That will stabilize...somewhat...the plugs.
