Inputs Outputs.............

Just realized I posted this in the wrong section.......anyway......

Hey I'm new here and very new to DAW's.........so please excuse my ignorance.  I just received my Sonar Studio in the mail and got everything downloaded okay today.  I'm using a MOTU Microbook II interface with it.  What I can't seem to figure out is how to set the inputs and outputs so I can record guitar straight into the interface....not using a mic.  This may be a question for MOTU....not sure.  I'm sure I'm missing something really simple and its bugging the crap out of me.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  This thing is awesome and I can't wait to really get into it.

You will need a Hi Z input on your MOTU to do a direct in. In Sonar there are a numbers place you can set the inputs and outputs.  I like to use the track Inspector (I) on your keyboard. toward the bottom is the in and outs area.  On a track you will need to have the track filter set to IO or all to get to the ins and outs. In the CV Console View its like the track inspector at the bottom.

This shows where the track filter is.

Here is the bottom of the Track Inspector. The ins and outs are obvious.

Looks like you would need to set Sonars input to the #2 (mono) of the Motu. Set the input echo to on on the track in Sonar that you are attempting to record from, and you should be good to go.

Thanks a lot for the help guys.  When I go to change the input underneath the fader for track 1 below is a picture of what I get.  Does this look right?  Doesn't say anything about ASIO....wondering if I didn't dl something correctly from MOTU.....there is MOTU here but none of these seem to work.  Also should the output remain as 'Master' here?

You need to use ASIO or WDM as your driver within Sonar. Go to Preferences audio device and select the correct driver. Do not use MME.

Thanks a lot.  This worked.  Any idea how to set up Session Drummer's inputs/outputs on a track.  When I Drag & Drop a program onto the track.....that's as far as I get.  It won't play and I can't record with it.  Can't figure out what's wrong.  Pretty infuriating.

There is a video about using Session Drummer 3 called "Drum Production I" on this page http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONAR-University/Master-Class using an older version of SONAR but the synth works the same in X3. If you want to record your own MIDI track for Session Drummer instead of using MIDI loops you will need a MIDI input device or directly enter MIDI notes with the Step Sequencer or Piano Roll View like this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruAnAPR6-hQ
