Quiet case fans
I need to add a quiet case exhaust fan - 120mm. Note: I don't need to move a lot of air to make the difference I need. I know that from trying out the stock antec fan at low speed. Worked well, but a tad louder than I want.
Reading a lot about these 2 in particular:
SCYTHE GENTLE TYPHOON 120
NOISEBLOCKER M12-S1
Anyone use one of those, or have a better suggestion?

Thanks - the one you linked is a case fan but not for case ventilation. This one is probably the one I need... I saw this review that helped clear that up: Pros: Very Quiet High Quality Product Cons: I have RMA because it's not for case ventilation, long version explanation here : NOT MADE FOR CASE VENTILATIONS. This Noctua FANS are ONLY for CPU Cooler and Radiator (Focused Flow system creates outstanding static pressure and focuses the airflow for superior performance on heatsinks and radiator) I have contacted NOCTUA Support about it, and here is their answer : =================================== Dear _________ First of all many thanks for choosing our products. The NF-F12 was designed for high-pressure applications like CPU coolers and radiators. The NF-S12A provides more airflow with a bigger spread after the outlet, which is better for case ventilation, where static pressure is usually not as important as on a cooler. However, I just tried it out and yes, the NF-S12A moves noticeably more air in free-flow condition and you can feel it, so I doubt that your fans are defective. Once on a CPU cooler the situation will look different but for case ventilation the NF-F12 just isn't the best choice. i would get a low noise fan for case intake and outflow... and make sure it is a 4 pin fan (hopefully your mobo uses 4 pin) for PWM flow control from the proc.

Musicroom, sorry about the confusion with the fan part number. I just grabbed the first Noctua one I saw. They are good fans though and are PWM as Maarkr recommends.

Hi Dave, The stock case fans are pretty quiet at lowest RPM setting. Over the past several years, it's probably gotten louder (starting to wear) due to dust. - Noiseblocker NB-Multiframe M12-S3HS
- Cooler Master Blade Master
- Noctua NF-S12A
The Blade Master is a good deal at ~$15 (least expensive of the three) The Noctua is the quietest of the three (also the most expensive)

That's what happened Jim. The older fan while not too loud, is a starting to make its' presence known. It still cools the case great and is needed now that I've added hdds. The case you chose is outstanding. As you know, it came with a case filter that I keep clean. When I neglect that, the temps can start to rise a bit. It's great for keeping the dust reduced inside the case. Thanks for the suggestions! I going to get the Noctua although the Cooler Master is tempting for the price.

I appreciate you taking the time to look! It helped to start reading about the differences. I can be picky about daw silence. Trying not to do anything to take away from when I first got this daw from Jim @ studiocat. I can barely tell it's running! I want to keep that non-sound going.
