[Solved] MIDI controller editing cannot manipulate multiple control events in piano roll

I feel like I have inadvertently invoked a mode that inhibits the manipulation of multiply selected CC events in the piano roll.
What I was trying to do:
I have an articulation in mind that is effected by CC1.  Every other note wants a different CC1 value.
I would normally draw the controller pattern once.  Then I right-click select the group of CC1 values.  Then CNTL+Drag them to copy them.
What happens now:
Only the first CC1 value that the cursor is over gets copied even though a group of CC1 events is selected.

I have right clicked all over the place looking for the mode that is causing this.
I'm pretty sure I have done this since I switched from 8.5 to X3.

Poking around this issue I have tried other modifications like moving the values up and down and again only the first CC1 of the selected group is modified.

some CC editing mode is inhibiting this...  What am I missing?

thanks in advance

That's what I do, and it works. I assume you're using the Smart Tool to right-click select the group?

    now:
Only the first CC1 value that the cursor is over gets copied even though a group of CC1 events is selected.

All the controllers should have little squares at their tops. You have to click precisely in the little square at the top of one of the selected controllers prior to dragging.

If something was invoked that prevents this from happening, i'm not sure what it would be...

Yup, that is it.  With 1600x1200 monitors those are some little squares.  Yes, I forgot that I had to see the smart cursor change state to the move cursor before dragging a group.

I know that.  I'm not sure how I missed it.

    thanks
