save / crash problem / SOLVED (too many audio tracks)

Hi everyone!

Recently, I upgraded x2 to x3a.  Save command crashes project after vocal edits. (clip envelope to even out volume).

I see x3 3.1, x3b, x3c, x3d, x3e are available.  Should I install each update and in some particular order?  Will the updates address the crashes?

Thanks, Ron

You only need to install X3e. If the program continues to crash, we'll circle back.

Cool. The updates had some new features, but were mostly about bug fixes.

OK,  save / crash problem still exists.

    1. open project, in track view and in track lane, used - edit filter / clips / clips envelope / gain /, adjust envelope, executed bounce to clips, then execute save, with success.

    2. repeat this sequence and upon save command, crash - white screen - no response.  Requires sonar shut down, lose unsaved material, sonar will not re-open unless system is re-started.

The first save is always OK, second one is lost!  error box indicates "reset button" not reponding

    Any ideas?

Haven't seen this before and can't duplicate, so I don't have anything I can offer. The problem you're describing happens most often when shutting down and a driver doesn't release, but I don't know how/if that would relate to saving.

When you say "repeat the sequence," do you mean doing the same thing again, or repeating the sequence after making additional edits?

    Thanks for the reply!

Additional edits, bounce, then save / crash.  I will experiment further to help isolate the problem.  The second save crashes and need to see under what conditions.  Will get back with you later.

Experimented and found only one project has this peculiar behavior, and it will occur when the project is opened and then saved twice, crashing upon the 2nd save, no editing of any kind is required.  Fortunately, I have a back up for the troubled project but have lost 10 hours of work.

Weird. In the future, you might find this info on File Recovery Mode helpful.

I guess you probably don't want to spend any more time on this but if you're using any third-party plug-ins, I'd be curious if you open Sonar in "safe" mode (open file while holding down Shift) and don't load any plug-ins whether the same issue happens. If not, then it would be worth isolating if some specific plug-in is causing issues.

FWIW I've been told that the vast majority of tech support calls involve issues with third-party plug-ins.

    Possibly a 32-bit plug-in living in a 64-bit world?

Could you please list all of the plugins that this project happens to have in it?

And, are all of your plugins current versions from the vendors?

Lastly, is your Windows up to date with maintenance?

It is good news that it is a single project exhibiting these problems, as that usually means one or more of the loaded plugins are having a bad hair day - possibly even with certain presets.  the problems vanishing when they are not loaded is a good indicator that this is a likely source of the issues.

And REALLY lastly, are the drivers and/or firmware for your audio interface current?

Plugs in use:  Breverb 2.0.10 / sonitus reverb, fx gate and equalizer, MAudio driver bit depth 24, ASIO reported latencies input 3.6 output 3.3 roundtrip 6.8, sample rate 48000, buffer size 128, Maudio driver recently updated version 6.0.8

I deleted all the plugs, second save crashed, deleted all synths, second save crashed, deleted all audio tracks, no problem!  Now I have 20 midi tracks with events in place and am in the process of rebuilding the audio tracks one at a time, will let you know when or if crash happens.

By the way, Addictive Drums is very interesting, going to incorporate that one for sure, need to read the manual.

I am grasping here - is your Windows maintenance up to date?  Also, your device drivers?

And, have you tried working with this project with Norton temporarily suspended?

Just some quick to try oddball things that have caused the occasional person nightmares in the past.

Lastly, what happens if you open the project, then do a Save As, to a completely new project folder?  You might try it first with the box checked for copying the audio over, and if that still doesn't work, try doing it again to yet another project folder, and this time do not copy any audio over.

I am wondering if there is some subtle corruption in the project.

Drivers up to date and disable Norton does not help, but it is OK, the corruption was eliminated with the deletion of all audio tracks.   Now I have 20 midi tracks with events in place and am in the process of rebuilding the audio tracks one at a time, will let you know when or if crash happens.
