Addictive Drum Kits

Given my recent woes with EZ Drummer, I am thinking about buying Addictive Drums.  Any thoughts on the best kits for organic music?  In the brief demos, I liked the 60s vintage and the two Oysters.

Kick and snare always attract me to a kit because toms, hats, and cymbals are less distinctive and I have a pretty good selection.  Kick and snare affect the song's character a lot.

ATM it may be cheaper to buy the X3 Producer upgrade which includes Addictive Drums. Addicitive Drums is a separate install directly from the XLN site and does not require X3 be installed to use AD.

    What Scook said.

I use the toms from the Blue Oyster, It may be black but I'm pretty sure it's the blue. I bought the Sonor Designer snare. I don't recall, offhand, the BDs I use. You can check the toms here. This song is tom intensive. The good thing about AD2 is that you can use 2 bass drums, or 4 if you want, to get the sound you want.

I also would upgrade to X3 although you get AD and not AD2 which has many enhancements over AD. As far as kits I have a bunch, but for organic sounds the Jazz Sticks is also very cool, besides the Oyster kits. My latest addition was the Fairfax and I like it a lot. Indie is awesome also!!!!!!!!!!! I like them all. Lol!

I'm pretty sure you get AD2. I'm not positive but when AD2 was released, as long as you bought X3 after a certain date, you got the upgrade.

As per this page, it looks like you get AD2 when you upgrade to SONAR X3 now...

"Upgrade to X3Producer" I puchased Late Sept 2013.
But Melodyne Essentials and Addictive Drums 2?

These may or may not be part of the X4 upgrade.
Coming up on that date for X4.  Of course I don't know new date.
$75 US is 1/2 price I paid which was bargain.

I stand corrected! Then definitely upgrade to X3!!!!!! No point in just buying AD2 by itself!! Just buy some Ad Packs after that.

Guitarprima, Thank you.  My question was about which expansion packs were best and I appreciate your answering.

Others, Although I am aware of the upgrade option, I have reason not to do that at this moment.  Thanks.

I know you stated that you have reason NOT to upgrade at the moment....but I would think it would be a better deal to upgrade even if you don't install X3...JMO.  Then again, you could install X3 along side of X1 and use both if you wanted.

I have the Fairfax kit and the Jazz kits (brushes and sticks) and they sound really good.  Then again...the kits that come with AD2 sound good also.  I really can't say that they sound "better" than my Superior Drummer sets...I also have the Jazz sticks and brushes.  Both products have great sounding drums.

I just think you'd be better of money wise to do the upgrade and get AD2 for free.  But like I said...just MHO.

A little confusion on Fairfax.  On the XLN site, they sell Fairfax for $79, but they say it "includes the Addictive Drums engine."  I am used to Session Drummer and EZ Drummer where you buy the program/player and then add on kits.  It sounds like Fairfax is stand-alone and includes the player.

    Anyone know how this works?

    THANKS

The AD2 engine is pretty useless without the "bought" kits.  You can download the AD2 engine as a demo...but it's just that....a limited demo.  Once you purchase a kit, you have a useful piece of software.  I'm not exactly sure how it works as far as the actual kits that come with the AD2 upgrade (Studio Pop, Studio Prog, and Studio Rock) as I purchased the upgrade from AD1 to AD2.  I am assuming that if you just purchase a single kit...that is the only full kit that you get....but you get the engine to play the kit.  And if you purchase an upgrade from AD1 to AD2, you get the studio kits as well.

What Ted said... when you purchase a specific kit, you get that plus the "engine" to play it.   When you purchase AD2 itself you get the "engine" plus the delivered kits (which are nice) and the ability to add other kits as you go (like the Fairfax).  Since AD2 is now include with X3P, the Fairfax kit would be your purchase if you chose that route.

Makes sense, guys, thanks.  I am always in need of better kicks and snares and was thrilled to upgrade from EZ Drummer 1 to 2; but if you've seen my other posts, you will know that was a disaster.

I sometimes listen to 20-30 kicks before picking one for a song.  I don't like boomy, but I also don't like splatty or too hard. :-)  Picky, right?
