Using Sound Forge - plug ins within Sonar X3?

Hello everyone

Is there anyway that I can use Sound Forge or some of its plug-in with Sonar x3 without having to export a track?  I love sound forge's noise reduction and loudness plug-in.

Please help and thank you.

    SoundForge is a 32bit application which ships with 32bit DX plug-ins and a few 64bit DX plug-ins intended for use with Vegas. If running 64bit SONAR, Acoustic Mirror, Audio Restoration, Click and Crackle Removal, Clipped Peak Restoration, Noise Reduction, Wave Hammer and elastique Timestretch should be available in the effects DirectX list. There may be one or two more, I have SF10. The rest of the plug-ins are 32bit only and will not run in 64bit SONAR.  If running 32bit SONAR all the Sony plug-ins should show up in the effects DirectX section.

    Thanks Scook

    I have SF9 and Sonar X3.  Strangely, none of the SF plug-ins shown up in the Direct X list.  Did I miss anything on configuration?

    Thank you

    I believe SF9 did not include any 64bit plug-ins. If you are running 64bit SONAR the Sony plug-ins would not be available. The plug-ins will only show up in 32bit SONAR.

    You can however make SF9 available to directly pass audio from Sonar to SF9 for edit then save and return without having to copy and paste any data.

    It installs SF 9 as a tool in the utilities menu. Highlight a piece of audio and just that part is opened in SF9 for editing in way you like using any of SF9s tools and when you're finished the Audi is passed back to Sonar. This is destructive editing.

    I'm not at my PC at the moment so can't give you the step by step instructions but I'm sure someone will come along and link you to where the instruct is are locate. It requires a registry edit so as long as you're comfortable doing that, all good.

    yes, this is the way I have been doing it for about 10 or more years-memory fails me. I will try to dig up the tutorial. Once its set, you just highlight the wav, in the utilities drop down menu SF will be listed, you select SF, the file automatically imports into SF, you then hit Control S,alt tab and it gives you a choice to overwrite your original Sonar wav.

    Yes, I missed that in the first post. SoundForge or any other program which takes a file name as a command line argument can be added to the Tools menu. The instructions are here https://www.cakewalk.com/...e-to-SONARs-Tools-menu

    Here is the registry entry for SoundForge 9 using the default location "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Sound Forge 9.0"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Sound Forge]
    "ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Sony\\Sound Forge Pro 9.0\\Forge90.exe"
    "MenuText"="&Sound Forge"
    "StatusBarText"="Run Sound Forge"
    "Type"="WaveEditor"

    Edit: I see the link has already been posted while I was extracting the registry entry.

    FWIW I have Vegas installed on the same laptop as Sonar, and a bunch of DX plug-ins show up.

    I believe Vegas is 64bit so all the DX plug-ins included with it would be too. This would explain the long list of Sony plug-ins available in 64bit SONAR. SoundForge is still 32bit but, as of SF10, bundles some 64bit plug-ins for use in Vegas, which also work in 64bit SONAR.

    I think it is best for me to upgrade SF to the latest version for all the benefits. Thank you so much for the screen shot Anderton! That completely convinced me.

    Thank you all.

    SoundForge 11 is a 32bit application so most of the plug-ins bundled with it will not run in 64bit SONAR. Unless it changed in 11, SoundForge comes with a small collection of 64bit plug-ins which I listed above.

    Sound Forge 11 is only 32 bit? That is a bummer....sigh.

    32bit programs can be launched from 64bit SONAR Tools menu so it would still be possible to work with it (of course SF9 works just as well as SF11 for this application).
