Quick question: =)

I bought the c01u. I am concerned in the proper handling of this microphone. I read that it is okay to leave it plugged in as long as you have a plastic bag over it so dust doesn't go on it, along with it not selected as the default microphone when not in use.

I want to confirm if it is okay to leave the microphone plugged in for long durations when not in use? If it is plugged in to the computer for 48 hours or more, will there be some sort of problem? In addition, is it not advised to simply plug in and plug out the microphone from the USB or is it better to disable the device in the device manager dialogue box before ejecting the USB wire?

Thanks!

well yer , I got mine with a cover.. didn't you ?

I just leave it covered.. unless using it.. hung upside down on the stand.

you can disable it in device manager if you want.. I mean you'll save the LED on the front.. but it's not active..

I've just left mine on.

You're post is very helpful regarding the Samson Mic and it helped me to install it.
I am having a terrible time with a noticable delay when I turn on echo for the audio channel. I ran the wave profiler and it is still the same. The adjustments that I made have not helped.
The recording comes out fine but the delay is awful.
I have a new computer with a Creative Labs Elite Pro Soundcard and interface. The comp has 8 gigs of RAM and is pretty nice. I am thinking that it should work.
I am using the MME drivers.
I suspect that the mic in on the interface will work just fine but I'd like to record with the Samson.
Would appreciate any ideas you have.
Many thanks-Mike

ok , the only time I use MME is when I need to bounce the vocal.. otherwise I switch back to asio mode.. BUT remember you have to untick the samson in the input's list so you can use "asio".. or failing that use WDM at a push..

I don't use a creative card..

well the normal thing is to think whats changed. e.g. software / hardware updates or a setting you have altered. something must have to make it act differently. try to post this question in the main bit of the forum BUT with more detail, like what sound card your using.. obv.. I'm assuming your using a samson thing? but which one..

Hi Fog

Just bought the CO3U mic with the Sonar LE and have latency problems. Sound in the mic
comes back to me about a second later. I'm using on board sound card. Any ideas.
I've recently joined this forum and have been reading your threads. You seem to know your
way around. Any help is received gratefully

well Ray, I use with 2 pro audio cards, BUT to record you do have to switch back to MME.. and well the on-board cards don't help matters latency wise. can you adjust a buffers slider perhaps?

also the sample rate of your onboard maybe locked to 24 bit. none of the devices I use within sonar are "windows default" ones..  I use my onboard, and onboard mic for that.

Just wanted to add that using ASIO4ALL will eliminate the need to change to MME or WDM.  It will read all MME or WDM devices - outputs and inputs and then you can easily use them with ASIO.

I just bought an MXL .009 USB mic and could not for the life of me get anything to work with MME or WDM.  It would always crackle, choke, and would slow Sonar to a crawl.  After using ASIO4ALL, it runs smooth as silk and best of all I can keep using the good ole ASIO mode that we all love and cherish.

Hope that helps anyone out there with getting USB mics to work in Sonar.

Enrique , the thing with asio4all is it's VERY hit and miss and varies from setup to setup.. and well is a quick fix.. if your fine with it, then great.. but not everyone can get away with using it alas.

if people are happy with it , then great.. but a decent asio based sound card is a better solution. some will say that for the mic, use an analog one, but well if you don't sing a lot or want to use a mic without an extra, soundcard, it's decent for that.

I would have done a guide for the g-track but samson didn't provide me with one for free after my work on this

Nah, Misty, last night there was a stealth spam post (one of those 'paste in parts of someone else's reply and add spam links' things). Apparently, that post was removed by the mods.

Welcome to the forum.
This isn't really a problem-reporting thread, but an informational thread.
Change the input in the audio track to a mono input, not a stereo input. See if that works.

If the tracks you've already recorded are keepers, you can fix it by going to Edit>Bounce to Track(s) and choosing the option Split Mono.
That will put each side of the stereo track in a seperate track and you can delete the empty track. The remaining track should be centered and pannable.

Next time, start your own thread by clicking the Post New Thread button in the upper left.
Again, welcome.

EnriqueV, your suggestion works, thanks! Using ASIO as device mode in Recording Playback device rather than MME solved the latency issue. You just have to set this up by connecting the mic first then restart Sonar to detect the Samson mic C01u since it will not show as recording device if you do not restart Sonar. My system is a Mac mini mid 2010, 2.4ghz cpu, 4gb ram. Windows 7 64-bit using Bootcamp.

Help
I'm very new to this recording lark, I'm using the Samson CO1U mic, I've just installed Cakewalk Sonar LE.
Now I'm stuck, the green light is on on the mic, I press record but when i listen back the recording is very faint, almost can't hear it, I've turned my speaker up full and can only just hear it then. What am i doing wrong, the mic and speaker are showing as my input and output, it all looks very confusing.
HELP!!!

Re: SONAR + usb mic Samson C01u 2014/08/30 20:37:13 (permalink)
have a look in your windows audio setup as well.. as you can modify the record volume in that.. are you sure your using the mic and not the onboard in say a laptop ?

are u using just the onboard card or one made for music ?

you can test the level in say other audio programs (try wavsaur or audacity) , if it's doing the same. then its your windows record settings
