Same happens here with an UA-25 (I realize it's not Cakewalk, but it's pretty much the same product). Apparently also happens with other Cakewalk/Roland products. I hope there will be a driver update or I'll have to stick to Windows 8.

Interestingly, even thought the process doesn't complete., the audio drivers are found by Windows.  It's the MIDI drivers that aren't showing up.

Many posts about Roland not yet supporting 8.1. Have a look around, you're not alone.

I think what always surprises me is that Windows 8.1 is in beta / review / release since the beginning of the year, and no driver has been developed during that time ...

Same here (UA-25EX doesn't work, can't use/load driver). Can someone of the brand (cakewalk, roland) help us by adding a message to this forum what to do or how long to wait?
    Thx!

The only way I could get windows 8.1 and the UA-25 EX to work (after working ok with Win 8) was to download the Vista drivers.
I'm sure the advice came from somebody on this forum.

guitarpad...  how did you do that?  Win 8.1 won't let me install those drivers.  Says it is the wrong version.  Can you be more specific as to the process, and that your UA25 works under 8.1 now?  thanks!

Correction - the new driver DOES work.  Had to have "Advanced Driver" switch on...

    Hi finalewiz,
The Win 8 driver does not work for me, even in advanced mode. Have gone back to the Vista driver.

This is how I did it (Win 8.1 Pro):

    1. Driver package is ua25ex_32d_v110
    From that package:
    2. Uninstall (Message will display 'Operating system you are using is not supported. Programme will be terminated'.
    3. Programme Compatibility Assistant will run. Run using the compatibility settings.
    4. Computer will restart.
    From driver package ua25ex_32d_v110:
    5. Run setup application as administrator. (Message will display 'Setup terminated.....').
    6. Programme Compatibility assistant will run. Run using compatibility settings.
    7. Message 'Ready to install driver'. Connect USB cable.
    8. Message 'installing device'.
    9. ua25ex driver appears in device manager ' Sound, Video, Game Controllers'.
    10. Everything works (for me).

Sometimes the 'installing device driver' part 'hangs' halfway through, even though Windows has reported that the driver has been installed.
I then use 'Task manager' to 'end' the ua25ex process. Again the driver appears in 'Device manager' under the correct settings.

    Hope this might help
    Paul.

Can not get it to work.
The installation process will simply not finish. No error message or anything, just does not happen.

And based on what I read, when googling this, this is not unusual, but still nothing from Cakewalk or Roland. Not a word. And no where to send a support request either. I am getting pretty fed up right now.

Last time the Win8 driver package was uploaded/updated on Roland's pages, is almost 1 year ago.
