M-Audio Oxygen 61: How to use the Controller-Buttons?

Hello
I have Sonar X3 Studio on Steam and an M-Audio Oxygen 61.

I want to use the Controller-Buttons (like Start, Stop, record) and the knobs and fader.
Can anybody Explain how i can do that (maybe in short Step-By-Step)?

I found "some things" to use the Fader, an Menu, where i can choose the Oxygen 61 as an ACT Controller, but the Controller-Buttons (specially the record Button) don't work..

Thank you for help

You can search "Cakewalk ACT" and "Control Surface Sonar" in this forum, youtube or just in google to get all possible guides. You can also check my site (the link in my signature).

Do not forget to first check your controller configuration (from the manual):
"Standard Operation:These buttons send standard MIDI CC, MIDI note, MMC (MIDI Machine Control) or other advanced MIDI messages (see Appendix B), based on the parameter they are assigned to, or the active preset. Each button can be reassigned to control various parameters in your DAW, including the transport controls, by using your recording application’s MIDI Learn function (if available – check the user documentation for your DAW), or assigning the Oxygen controls manually as described in Section 9 - Advanced Programming Functions. "

To avoid problems, do not configure it as MMC (some users have reported it does not work well with 64bit SONAR). MIDI note/CC (on MIDI channel different from the keys) should work fine. Then either Generic Surface or ACT MIDI will be able to use them.

There is complete SONAR documentation in German: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/doc.aspx?DLID=1004
See chapters 20 and 40 for MIDI/controller related topics.

Oxygen also has documentation in German (see m-audio web site).

Finally, in case you have some questions to me, I understand German (in PM please, this forum is not multilingual).

If you still can not login tomorrow, you should ask support:

Japs... 2450 Pages to read ... THAT is an Manual.. :D

If I read them all, I am too old to make Musik...
But without Fun: If I read it, there is a newer Version of Sonar out ^^

Yeah... I remember very well that ACT setup was not exactly intuitive for a newcomer - nearly drove me mad, and I deal with a lot of clunky software...
Anyway, this video finally helped to set me on the right track. Not from the latest version of Sonar, but it still works pretty much the same:

I have already mentioned, for Control Surface you can jump to the chapter 40. For MIDI related topics, to the chapter 20. SONAR is quite complicated software and the documentations is detailed. Also it takes just several days to read it throw, compared to the time you need to learn how to play any conventional music instrument, it is negligible. And SONAR in some respect is a music instrument

In case you follow the video and at ~ 1:00 press "ACT learn" button, the ACT mapping for the current context is most probably broken (ACT mapping is system wide immediate setting, restarting SONAR will not help). Using 2 plug-ins with one surface produce some "side effects". Most these videos are oversimplified. In preparation of my "ACT MIDI" guide I have checked many times for possibility to make it short, without success.
