No Audio on startup

Hello

I'm having some trouble making my audio device active on startup. It used to work ok but at some point it stopped working, IDK if it was after a program update or if i changed something in the driver settings.

Here is the issue, I start up Sonar... load a project or start a new one... at this point I have no audio output... I open up preferences and my audio device is listed and checked... I click on APPLY and exit the preferences menu... now everything works as expected.

It's not a big deal but I find it very annoying having to go trough this procedure every time I start Sonar.

I'm running Sonar X3 Studio edition on Windows8.1. My current audio device is M-Audio M-Track with AsioForAll.

Hope someone already solved this issue, it driving me nuts :(

I would think that the M-Audio has a driver designed for either wdm or stock asio, maybe even try MME ( I often find this leads to a little static when you hit play but no peroblems beyond that). I would only use ASIO4ALL with on-motherboard soundchips that do not perform welll with the stock ASIO driver. So, get rid of ASIO4ALL FORNOW and try the regular ASIO interface or WDM with your devices drivers installed. GOOD LUCK! -Shawn

I think that did the trick, I did uninstall AsioForAll and set the driver mode to WDM/KS. Now I have audio when I start Sonar. I may have to tweak the settings some but at least it works now. Thank you very much

I would strongly recommend that you do get the ASIO driver for the M-Track.  It will perform better than the WDM/KS driver.  Also in preferences you may want to check the box that allows sonar to share audio device with other programs.  That way if you have iTunes up or a browser Sonar will still play the audio.

I agree (and would also add uninstalling ASIO4ALL was a good move), except regarding the performance of WDM/KS. Testing both WDM/KS and ASIO with various interfaces, I found no significant difference in performance with quality WDM drivers.

The one advantage of WDM is it does allow aggregating multiple interfaces. This is something Core Audio does easily, but for Windows this ability of WDM seems to fly under the radar for most users.
