Looks like my ISP has a problem, probably with the DNS settings or server... Ironically, I apparently had ALL my images cached somewhere because everything was coming up just fine for me. *Sigh...*

Pinging the IP address returns about 130ms. Trace route to www returns ok. Trying to access via IP address or web address returns 404

Great timing. I'm about to launch a new forum area with over 100 boards. Needless to say, my confidence level with my hosting company (1and1) is not at an all-time high right now!

Data centres are all the same, whether 1&1 or host papa or whoever. Racks of hardware running virtual servers with virtual disks.
The IP address is responding but the content isn't, so prolly a virtual disk is shut down for some reason.

1&1 doesn't have the domain name pointing to the server (internal DNS) or it could be permissions. If it's just been set up wait another 24 hours for them to flush their DNS.
Or more likely 1&1 internet is just crap. Worst hosting company I've ever had to deal with. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

I can't remember if someone asked about this or not but I believe 404 refers to either: 1. the number of errors you created while trying to access the site in question. 2. the number of attempts you will need to make to actually access the site in question. 3. the number of people now required to fix the error you created while trying to access the site in question. 4. an arbitrary number someone pulled out of the air to make the error you created while trying to access the site in question look legitimate. or - 5. the name of the information highway you ended up on by taking the wrong exit while trying to access the site in question.
