Dimension Pro reinstall problem...

Hi!

I had to reinstall my computer and realised I didnt have Dimension Pro anymore. I do have the 1.5 setup and all the audiofiles on a separate harddrive. But it seems that to be able to install 1.5 I need an older installation (think it was 1.2) installed. I cant find the setup for that anywhere. Was Dimension Pro just bundled with some versions of Sonar? I thought it came with all.

Dimension Pro has been bundled as a separate installer for some time now. No prior installation is necessary. Use the installers from one of the X series versions of SONAR. The X3 files are:
    04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe
    04_Dimension_Pro_1.5_Expansion_Packs.zip

If the installer is complaining about a prior version, make sure the registry is clean. DimPro entries are
    64bit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp
    and
    32bit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\dp

Prior to v1.5 DimPro used HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro I am not sure but would expect there may be a 32bit location in Wow6432Node for older versions too.

The removal of leftover registry keys is a common 'gotcha' kind of thing, and also frequently trips up folks trying to do clean installs of Sonar, so don't feel bad.

The other common 'gotcha' with an installation of Dim Pro is that on first launch, to complete the registration process, you need to either launch Sonar with the explicit Run As Administrator, or you need to launch the stand-alone Dim Pro with the explicit Run As Administrator, or it will not properly detect the registration code.

Please note that Run As Administrator is not the same as having your User account in Windows set up to be an Administrator account.  Right-click on either the Sonar launch icon, or the Dim Pro launch icon, and then click on Run As Administrator, and then you can properly complete the registration process.

    Hope that helps,

That one thing " Run As administrator" is the most annoying feature of both Windows 7 and 8.
So many times your scratching your head on installs when you forgot and nothing is working. I wished there was a user preference that toggled "Alway's run Programs as Administrator"
But one thing I noticed is if you install from a Zip file and a lot of CD/DVD install disks you never get that option. Is there a workaround for that? With the CD's Auto run seems to work fine.

I run all installs of trusted applications with Run As Administrator, so I don't really have the issue of forgetting that.  I have done it so long that way that it is second nature - actually it's first nature, to be more accurate.

When things are compressed (zip, rar, whatever), I always decompress them prior to installation.  it too is a choice I made long long ago, and it has served me well over the decades.
