Yes you are correct, Use Session drummer, not TTS-1- You need to use the proper playback samples to re create what your are hearing from the Roland brain.
I have the Yamaha DTX 400 and the sounds are not bad , but I just use Session Drummer 3 and ,,funny, mostly the Yamaha Birch Kit. Certain things like Hi Hat pedal and ride cymbal Bell don't trigger proper with some of the sample kits. And there's this cool little roll that only some snare samples play from D#2.
Anyhow, everything will match up without re mapping if you find the right sample kit.
I have the brain plugged into input 3/4 of my interface and monitor that while playing, If I monitor Session drummer there's a touch of latency which sounds like I have digital delay on the kit.
So I route the midi track output to a dead end until done. Then I switch it to Session drummer to edit etc.
