What a wanked up poll. I just voted three times and each time it upped the count. IJS.

Yeah. Should be one vote only. But all polls are bit like a homecoming queen contest, aren't they?

Sonar 8.5 is the best. Put the features of X3 in 8.5 and it would be even better. The X series went downhill as far as look but uphill as far as features.

All the major DAWs are capable of making good records. I use Sonar because I am familiar with it, the support is great, and it comes bundled with a lot of content (plus I'm too lazy to learn a new platform when I could spend that time writing). I am curious about something, however. Surely someone in the industry knows the ranking of the various DAWs by units sold and by dollars in sales. I wonder why we never see those numbers. The numbers alone are not the basis for a buying decision since some DAWs may be more popular large commercial hardware-based facilities, some may be more popular with hobbyists, some better for composers of EDM, or whatever. (Example: There are many more project studios than large commercial facilities, but I would bet $1,000 Pro Tools is the most popular in the large facilities.) Still, I would like to know the numbers because I am curious. I do know from trade magazines and ads that ProTools, Logic, and Cubase *seem* to be the most supported by hardware/console manufacturers, but that doesn't really tell us much about raw sales, just who hardware companies think makes up their target audience. In units sold, my guess is that Pro Tools and Logic are #1 and #2, with Sonar and Cubase very close for #3. I do not think Pro Tools is far ahead in units, but because of its cost, it is no doubt way ahead in sales dollars.

Democracy is the worse form of government except all the others have been tried-Winston Churchill. Each to their own, but honestly Sonar as a composition tool and an extension of a digital musical instrument still leaves all the other DAW's in the dust. And lets not get started on how it really is the best emulation of a "real" mixing console. A few more features such as Varispeed, network performance and some real-time time stretching tool would really push it into another realm. Wouldn't mind a DJ function either. I've been doing some hard-core research lately into future possibilities regarding possible future music ideas performance and composition. We def need real-time time stretching and DJ functionality. Again it's all about creating a seamless digital instrument, rather than a digital audio workstation, which as a concept is rather old, perhaps a digital audio instrument. Particular as digital audio is only a small fraction of musical possibilities these days. Ben

There's a monthly sales report called MI Salestrak but it's not cheap and the results are copyrighted. Furthermore, I don't believe it takes digital downloads into account, which is becoming an ever-larger part of the business. As most companies are privately-held and don't need to release figures, they don't.

Polls tell us very little really. It's a small minority of DAW users who even visit forums and such. So a poll is contaminated from the get go. Like a .5% voter turnout. I think Wave Lab is the best Audio software I have ever used. I have no clue how many other people use it and it wouldn't change my opinion.

I always find these polls skewed being that the only people who vote are the ones who know about them and the only ones who know about them are the ones who post about them in public groups such as this. They are in no way, shape or form a reliable source of information.
