More Pro Channel modules..please

Yes, I know I can use an FX Chain module to load any VST of my choosing into the ProChannel.

Maybe we'll see the newer Overloud products get the ProChannel treatment in X4?
Or maybe a deal could be struck with Softube to allow their modules to be sold individually in the Cake store?
Or even, some of the existing bundled Sonar plugins (Sonitus, BlueTubes etc..) could be revamped into modules?
Channel Tools, TS-64 Transient Shaper and the VX-64 Vocal Strip maybe?

Either way, I really do hope Cakewalk have a firm plan to expand the ProChannel concept with MORE MODULES..please

As much as I would love to see it, the probability of the Sonitus, Channel Tools, TS-64 and VX-64 etc. revamped into modules is lower then discovering that “Dark Matter” is actually chocolate!

What I would like to see is the ability to set a module within the PC to be the displayed tab in the multidoc when you move to a track. Yeah!

I have empirical evidence this is true... (Bender told me!)

i expect new pc mods depend, generally, on 3rd party devs implementing that format? then the question is: does it make business sense (=profit) for the dev (effort vs. payback) given the limited market (only works in one host)?

having said that, hopefully there'll be a new one* with x4 :-)

I bought the Softube mix bundle a few years ago. I use some of the modules quite a bit. I was able to pick it up for $179 when it first came out. I heard it was something like $329 now. I don't know that I would pay that much for it.

Yep! I bought the Mix Bundle when it was first offered by CW. I use the TSAR-1R reverb a lot it is a great little verb! When I can afford it I might get the full blown version. The FET Compressor is also a great little tool as is the Focusing EQ.

I posted a ProChannel-friendly Channel Tools FX chain a while back. It is indeed useful but I'm not sure a specific module is needed, the Channel Tools one worked fine.

I also have the Softube ProChannel Mix Bundle. Although I have various other reverbs, I do tend to use the TSAR reverb quite a bit. The Focusing Equalizer and the FET Compressor are both really great.

So this thread is about more ProChannel modules. I took advantage of the offer on the VKFX modules as well. So since I have them all presently, the Cakewalk ones and these others, my ProChannel menu is almost too long. It needs a manager option to group modules. The module I use the most, the FX chain (where I can bring in other non ProChannel effects) is at the bottom of the list so I have to scroll a lot to get there.

But I'm not complaining! I can think of track after track where I used each of these ProChannel modules in various combinations. Super grateful to the Cakewalk team to have made this so convenient and powerful and visible and sounding good and and...

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I didn't go for the Softube bundle when the offer was running.  A poor choice on my part.  I'd love to have it, but there's absolutely no way I'd pay the current price just to have it in the Pro Channel.

The ProChannel definitely needs a Channel Tools module. The old 32-bit version is great but I've had it cause stability problems at random times before.

A stereo delay module is also way overdue. Nothing fancy or "analog" sounding, just a good clean L&R channel delay with modulation speed and depth.

How about an "about" for the ProChannel modules, so we can see the version of a madule?

I thought this was possible when I was using X1 Expanded, but now in X3, I don't see any way to get to an "about" for the modules, or am I missing something?.

Pro channel mods are just vst's with a different skin to fit in that pro channel space. I'm only a web designer but I don't think it's a big deal for a developer/graphics artist to shrink and rearrange the knobs on a plugin. This basically what your doing with the effects chain mod. It just doesn't look as pretty.

It would be damn shame if Cakewalk have no plan to expand on the Pro Channel concept, and limit the introduction of new modules only to new versions of Sonar.

Why waste time effort and resources developing a really poor iOS app like Scratchpad when the devs could've cooked up something for the Pro Channel instead?  Sure, we all have our preferences and ideas on where Cakewalk should focus their efforts.  Granted.

The FX Chain module is quite possibly the most important development for the Pro Channel thus far, but I can't help but feel it provides an easy excuse to limit further module development.  Channel Tools for instance.  I think it's great that Craig took the time and effort to share his rather brilliant work around.  But unfortunately, as with so many other things in Sonar, it's exactly that; a work around.

For clarity...
  • Channel Tools
  • Signal Splitter
  • Time based processors
…are what I'd really love to be developed for the Pro Channel.

Given their links with Cakewalk in recent years, perhaps we'll see a version of Overloud's REmatrix (a multilayer convolution reverb) included in Sonar as a replacement for Perfect Space?

A Pro Channel adaption of that would be incredible.

Re: More Pro Channel modules..please 2014/09/22 15:47:53 (permalink)
Apart from the Softube suite I believe I have all ProChannel modules and apart from an occasional console emulator I don't really use it. I don't like the lack of presets per module, I think the way of inserting modules is eye candy and really very annoying (I can't even see my whole list clearly due to the huge icons), I can't remove the EQ, nor can I add a second one, the flyout is pretty but confirms to me that you really generally need more space for an EQ, BReverb2 misses functions in the PC, the list goes on and on.

It's just not a timesaver nor a practical thing for me. Some people rave about fx chains in the PC but the time spent setting them up is way more than they're worth for me. It's pretty quick double clicking an effect in the bin. I know this is not a popular opinion on here but I swear I have a point here; I wish they would seriously revamp/revise some basic prochannel features before adding more modules. I might use it more if it weren't ultimately limited even in what it claims to do.

Each to their own, we all have feature preferences
I do agree with the majority of your points however.
