iZotope RX 4/RX Connect

Anybody using RX 4 yet? Does the new RX Connect feature work better than setting up RX as a WaveEditor in the registry?

I have RX 3, and looked at the "new" features in RX 4 and couldn't justify the $300.00 upgrade fee.

Thanks, Walt. I'm guessing you have Advanced, if the upgrade is that much? I just have the standard version and can get the upgrade through audiodeluxe.com for $84.99.

However, I just installed the trial and the specific feature I was wondering about, RX 4 Connect, which is supposed to seamlessly integrate the standalone version with the DAW of your choice, is actually more cumbersome than having it set up as a WaveEditor for SONAR in the registry.

Oh, well. That, coupled with the fact that, like you, I'm not seeing anything new that seems like a "must have", I'm probably going to just stick with RX 3.

I asked them about ARA and the support guy had no idea what it was and said they had no plans to implement it right now. Way to miss the boat.

I really don't understand why RX needs ARA. There's nothing RX does that would be benefited by ARA.

You don't NEED ARA for Melodyne either. But being able to process a clip in place within the Sonar interface seems useful.

I'm just working with RX4 Advanced.
"Connect" works only for a few seconds of audio (as in preferences "command Audio length").
For longer clips I have to load the files direct in the RX4 Editor.

I can already process a clip in place using RX via Sonars utility menu if I want to. Nothing to do with ARA.

True, and I suppose noise removal is a little less prone to revision than pitch and time may be. Still, it's destructive editing. Again, it's not really necessary for Melodyne either, it just makes things a little quicker and easier.

Thanks, Walt. I'm guessing you have Advanced, ....

Yes it is RX3 Advanced. I just used it to "save" a ruined audio in a Wedding Video shot at Enchantment Resort in Sedona AZ. The Wedding Ceremony was held outside next to the Casita's Swimming Pool. Between the Pool's Filtration System, the three large air conditioners for the Casita, a twin engine airplane flying overhead, and the 350 camera clicks from the photographer, you couldn't hear too much of the vocals.

It took two weeks of surgery, but all of the offending "noise" was removed and the minister and Bride and Groom's voices could be clearly heard. Great program and with Sonar music editing, the video is a keeper.

WallyG, you've convinced me that Cakewalk needs to bundle RX4 Advanced in Sonar X4. I mean, they both have "X4" in them, so it must be fate, right? ...Right? :D

I also use RX3 Advanced - and mostly from Sonar's "Utility" menu.
I love it when it works, but lately I've had driver sharing issues and RX crashes...

RX2 Advanced worked much better in Sonar X2.
(Sony's Sound Forge Pro 11 works like a dream, but is far from RX3 Advanced.)

iZotope's tech support could not get RX working from Sonar's Utility menu at all... even with Scott's (DigiFreq's) instructions I sent.

Thanks for the heads-up on RX Connect -
A few seconds definitely won't cut it, so no sense in upgrading to 4-Advanced.

Since complete file transfers out from and back to DAW projects is one of the most important features, maybe iZotope will
improve Connect in version 5 Advanced...

I would recommend that anyone interested in this try the demo for themselves. It's easy to install and use.

I disagree that RX Connect only permits processing a few seconds of audio. I just installed the RX4 Advanced demo and passed a single clip that is over an hour and a half in length from SONAR X3 to the RX4 standalone through RX Connect and back again. It worked well. Perhaps those who had trouble with it clicked the Audition button on the RX Connect dialog which does only process a few seconds of audio. Here is a link from iZotope's support center describing how to use RX Connect with SONAR X2/X3:

    https://www.izotope.com/s...h_Cakewalk_Sonar_X2_X3

I have RX3 but I've never tried using it via SONAR's Utility menu, so I can't comment on workflow distinctions. I'm only posting to say that RX Connect worked well for me.

    Regards,
    Don

    Greetings all,
    Don's link leads to this:
    (Take note of the "NOTE")

"To edit audio from Cakewalk Sonar X2 / X3 in RX 4:
Right-click the clip you wish to edit in RX and select “Process Effect > Audio Effects” from the right-click menu.
Select RX 4 Connect in SONAR’s plug-in browser.
When the RX Connect plug-in window appears, select either “Reference” or “Repair” and click “OK” to send the clip to RX 4.
NOTE: Do not click the Audition button, as this will send only a portion of the clip to RX 4.
Once you are done editing in RX 4, click the “Send Back” option on the file tab.
Repeat step’s 1-3. This time when you click OK in the RX Connect plug-in window, the repaired audio will replace the original audio in SONAR’s timeline."

The Utilities menu option is a lot less step intensive, but as I mentioned - it's been problematic as of late.
...though... I find it odd that issues have arose just as a new version of RX arrives...

Regardless, seemless transfer out to an editor and back again is something I do quite a bit, and worth it's weight in gold,
so I may bite the bullet and get the Advanced upgrade...

I didn't realize I needed to use "Process Effect" to get the RX Connect applet to work properly -- thanks, that did the trick!

Hello!! I am working on Sonar X3 Producer and have Izotope Rx4 advance, the thing is that when I go to:
    - “Process Effect > Audio Effects” from the right-click menu. Select RX 4 Connect in SONAR’s plug-in browser.
When the RX Connect plug-in window appears, select either “Reference” or “Repair” and click “OK” to send the clip to RX 4.-
It opens RX4 but opens the file as a Stereo track instead of a mono track. So I am listening all in the left monitor and using half of the RX4 screen.

    What am I doing wrong??

    Thanks!!

I can confirm that RX 4 opens the mono clip as a stereo waveform when processing the clip with the VST3 version of RX Connect. When I process the mono clip with the VST2 version of RX Connect, then RX 4 opens it as a mono waveform. Sounds like a bug to me though it may be working as designed. Not sure. Anyway, try the VST2 version of RX Connect.

I can confirm and called support they could not tell me what to do about it , but now that I know it opens in vst2 correctly then it has to be something in the vst3 that's making it do this. I will call again

UPDATE 4/3/2015:  SORRY TO TACK ON TO AN OLD POST.  I'LL START AN NEW THREAD.  THANKS.

    Hi.

I have 15 to 20-year-old vocal and acoustic guitar takes recorded on a Yamaha MT-120 4-track cassette recorder that I would like to bring back and use again inside Sonar Producer. Surprisingly, there is not a lot of tape hiss, but there is a little.  More troublesome is my having recorded the vocals with reverb. So it's noticeable, and quite frankly,  too wet in many cases.  I would like to remove (or minimize) it and use something better in Sonar.  I also "settled" for some takes and allowed editing and recording noises (pops/clicks).  I can also hear headphone bleed in the recordings when I solo a on old track.

So...is RX4 my answer to cleaning all this up?  Are there enough extras in RX4 Advanced to really spend the extra cash?  I've been watching videos and reviews.  In most it seems RX4 is used primarily for dialog.  Is it the right tool for this or do I just need to learn how to use the plugins in Sonar better (as well as Nectar 2 Essential which I already have).  I really not trying to justify a purchase.  I just want to get the best results possible in the least amount of time.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

    Marc
