Recording With A Looper And Sonar X3- Video

I work with a guitarist who's quite adept with a looper and uses it to great effect. That inspired me to get one, too.
 
I had a blast with it for a few weeks but ultimately sold it after coming to the conclusion that it wasn't going to do anything for me creatively. Everything I created with it turned out overly busy, weakly structured and immediately forgettable. I couldn't see it ever leading to what I'd call a "song".
 
The point being that some will be inspired by a looper, some won't. But everyone should at least give it a go. If nothing else it's a fun way to keep your fingers limber between gigs.

gswitz has a good point. You can get too busy with a looper....keep in mind that the part you play will repeat over other parts....and keep on playing until you stop it. I certainly could have gone more "busy" on the guitar but I was A. Improvising and B. Trying to make small parts. I admit guitar isn't my first instrument but I can play :)
 Looking at my floor boards the whole time probably doesn't look very confident...if you play live you need to get good enough to change guitar sounds, change and record looper tracks and engage the audience. It can be done and done well...If I spent some more time I'm sure I could reach that level. I have played with it out several times. Once I did an acoustic song and i added a second acoustic part to it. Another time I used everything it had to offer. I added bass and acoustic rhythm guitar to the drums in the RC300. That time I even sang a vocal chorus on the last track and added harmony because the RC300 has a mic input on it.. I have had repeated requests to do it again, but it takes more time and preperation thatn Ive had lately ;)
