X3 and Protools10 surprise!

Hello.
I'm a long time user of Cakewalk DAW (I started with CW6). Last week I need to export some tracks from X3e (on PC windows 8.1) on a protools 10 session loaded on a Macbook air of a friend of mine.
We listened to the same project via my TC konnekt48 and I was "very surprised" to realize that it was sounding better (more clear and dynamic) when coming out from Mac.
Is this possible?

I don't like absolutes so I'll go with "extremely unlikely" that either ProTools or the Mac is at the source of the difference. Much more likely that something else caused it (e.g. different mix, fx, monitoring, location/room fx, psychoacoustics).

We're investigating. Thank you for the reply!!!
The routing was essential: same tracks, direct routing to master out, no plugins at all...
We'll perform a new test on the next week.
Anyway I just keep on producing very, very well on X3.

I'm baffled. How can you connect cables or even get sound out of a hamburger? The only sound I heard was the crunch of lettuce when I bite into it. Strange world this is.

Render/Bounce to a stereo wave on each system, then do an inverse sum and look for differences.
Anything else is a waste of time.

...which can also account for why something sounds "better" than something else.

I have done some very controlled experiments creating an identical mix across both platforms and over 4 DAW's.  On the Mac it was Pro Tools and Logic and on the PC Studio One and Sonar.  Panning was L C and R only and all pan laws were set the same.  No plugins used, just creating an identical mix sound on the summing buss that was all.  The original tracking sessions were stellar  (very well placed mic positions, choice of mics and finest pres available everywhere, great room, excellent band and performance) and the perfect mix was possbile with no plugins being used.  Just fader levels only.  (Even in mono it sounded amazing)

The playback and comparison listening environment was excellent and I had several people present.  On listening to all four it was very evident that there was very very little if not any differences between all four mixes.  I was able to create very deep nulls by inverting and adding them together.  I was left with the feeling that way things are done on PC or MAC and even over several DAW's, they all do it the same basic way.

Maybe the sound of different DAW's comes into to play the moment you start using their plugins/processing and creating special effects.  If you can hear the sound of what you are trying to achieve well in advance in your mind's ear then no matter what DAW or platform you are using I think you are going to get there.

Thank to everybody for the replies.
I'm going to do very accurate tests to investigate in the next weekend.
What I heard was a considerable (for my ears) difference and I want to understand why this happened.
I really thank you for this supporting posts.

We have imported 10 files and re-exported. After that source and destination have the same data bits.
There is nothing changed within Sonar.
As we digitize large orders for customers, we wanted to make sure that Sonar nothing changed when it passes through the internal mixer.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...
