Another Cat Video, Seriously? :P

Don't take it too seriously because I don't - it's just a silly little something I put together last night, a study in the style of, something which is completely out of my own comfort zone (which extends between Elvis and Nine Inch Nails). All apologies to purists and learned musicians.

Meet Mongoline, daddy's special girl. And those eyes... (We usually call her "Googlie" because of them).

I haven't yet upgraded SampleTank so I don't have access to my orchestral library (Miroslav) - therefore, I simply cut the basic idea using Logic's own instruments and moved on to my other projects.

I didn't bother with the mix either because, I may be crazy enough to write theme songs for my cats, I'm not crazy enough to waste time on it. Though I did spend 20 minutes in iMovie putting this little video together.

See - I can sometimes write about stuff that isn't all dark and horrific...

EDIT - Dammit, why can't I embed the video in my post?! Preview was working...

That's pretty cool! You should expand that, it could go somewhere. Great cat too, and yes..the eyes...

Yeah, but it still sounds like something from a Tim Burton animation

1 - Thanks. Listening to it again, I get ideas and I definitely could improve on it and expand it. Something I could work on even if just to learn more about that type of composition.

2 - Yeah, it does. It's a bit embarrassing actually, but I felt it was worth pursuing nevertheless, and that's why I decided to use the idea as an etude. Even though I own only one of his scores, I guess Dany Elfman managed to influence me.

    3: It worked! Thanks!

Heh, FIRST THING that came to my mind was a Tim Burton animation too!  Cute kitty too.

    Thanks. :)

I guess I see it as an experience and I'm diversifying the portfolio.

You should hear one of the pieces I'm working on this week - I totally Cirque du Soleil'd that one. It's an interesting style to explore and it forces me to try different things and to keep certain reflexes at bay. Some scales and modes I never thought I'd work with.

After which, of course, I spend 4 days writing a dark electro/industrial mass inspired by the horrors of Auschwitz... In D minor. But that's another story...

From my short time writing music for video, there seems to be a steady demand for music "in the style of" or "which evokes this or that movie". I guess I could capitalize on that.

Sounds very good! If I could put together ditties like this in a hurry I would seriously consider becoming a freelance jingle writer....

    Thanks Sharke. :)

I'm hoping to be able to get a few soundtrack type of gigs eventually - that would pay new studio toys.

I love your little cat!  Her eyes are so BIG! How fun she must be to have around.  Good job on the tune and video.  Very playful.

    Thanks Jimmy!

We have 5 cats, but that one really is the special one for me. She's always somewhere near me - and quite vocal too. Tons of fun to have her around. :)
