Sonitus Compressor - Time to Live?
Each time a new release of Sonar is in the offing, I get the feeling that this time support will end for DX fx, and consequently my beloved Sonitus:fx Compressor will die. In anticipation of this day, I force myself to use other compressors (including the Pro Channel ones). I always find myself sneaking back to Sonitus. This is not so much because I sense anything really superior in its sound, but because it is so straightforward to use. The GUI is plain and simple, and it is perfectly clear visually and audibly what your tweaks are doing. I know it is fashionable to say "use ears only" but I find it really helpful to see what is happening, too. Am I missing something with Pro Channel or indeed any other plug-in compressor? I am only talking about individual track compression here, not bus/mastering applications, by the way.

Or you could just continue to use the vst version if dx support is dropped.

I can't imagine any good reason for CW dropping DX support, ever. There's just no need and no advantage in doing so. The code's already in there, and solid. DX isn't going away. It's still maintained with a new version coming, and supported in new Microsoft products such as the XBox and the Microsoft phone.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

The Sonitus effects are way underrated by many users. Some of them still have no equal to this day.

But are any of the dx effects with Soundforge and Vegas new? Most of the effects in Sony Products are older than Sonitus or third party VST. Not knocking them. They still work great. I was just curious what the likelihood of seeing new dx fx are.

Ditto this. The Pro-Channel compressors are both pretty good, but the lack of extra controls continue to plague me. Sonitus' UIs are top notch in my mind. Dirt simple, and designed for a mouse user, not someone trying to emulate hardware, which simply doesn't work in a mouse-driven environment.

I love the sonitus plugs but some emulation plugs work just fine. The CA2A is awesome despite having few controls.

You are not alone. The Sonitus:FX Compressor is my go to compressor for the same reasons. I am going to try and learn some of the other compressors...........eventually.
The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better. Well they upgraded them to 64 bit for Vegas.

DirectX is what I call a "zombie format." It's dead, but lives forever. BTW last time I talked with Cakewalk about the Sonitus effects, they said they have no intention of dropping them and expect them to continue being part of Sonar.

scook iZotope still develops DX plug-ins
Hate to hijack the this thread but since moving over to Sonar X3 Studio 64 bit I have not been able run Trash 1 32bit DX. I know that bitbridge is supposed to work for 32bit VST but I have the DX version of Trash. I contacted Izotope and they state they no longer support it. I know Trash 2 is out but loved my Trash 1. Has anyone gotten 64 bit X3 working with Trash 32 bit DX? Back on-topic, I too love the ease of use of the Sonitus Compressor and all the rest of the suite for that matter. I still prefer them over most other plugins, esp the compressor, delay, phaser.

There is no bridge for 32bit DX plug-ins. The best solution for using 32bit DX plug-ins is a 32bit host. Some have reported success using a VST wrapper like http://xlutop.com/buzz/zip/dxshell_v1.0.4b.zip. The wrapper will allow 32bit DX plug-ins to load in a VST bridge. I have not seen reports of this method used with iZotope plug-ins.

Maybe this DX wrapper will help: http://www.kvraudio.com/f../viewtopic.php?t=177538

I feel the time is right for Cakewalk to stop distributing DX plugins. I also feel the same about 32 bit Sonar versions and including 32 bit plugins. Time for a spring clean!!!
Of course they should not withdraw support for running DX plugins or 32 bit plugins so people can continue to use them (and there is a 100% chance that will happen).
And yes overhauled VST3 versions of Sonitus are long overdue, maybe Pro Channel versions would be nice.

I think that's the catch 22 with Sonitus plugins. The value of developing new versions is probably far more reliant on the projected ability to sell to non-sonar users. Putting research into rebooting something that Sonar users enjoy as an included plugin but may not be willing to pay for as an extra could backfire. The fact that the old versions work just fine makes the matter even less pressing. Adding new features is risky and keeping as-is but just making VST3 may be even riskier. I would guess Cakewalk will take the if it ain't broke... approach unless they suddenly get you incentive to do differently.

I would be looking at the Z3TA+ being upgraded to Z3TA+2 as the model here which was extremely successful.

I think that model worked because Z3ta+ had such a strong non-Sonar following. Prior to the launch of Z3ta+2 you could still find current references, tutorials, listings in "best synth" polls concerning Z3ta+. Finding a mention of Sonitus outside of this forum or a Sonar specific article/video is highly unlikely. Of course I could be wrong, butI think the window to market Sonitus plugs heavily has passed. Not many remeber the Ultrafunk days.

Been working on a project for a couple of years. (lots of projects, limited time, too many new ideas,.....) Getting close to the end with this one. Using: Multiple instances of sonitus: gate eq modulator compressor delay reverb And CW: amp sim multivoice chorus/flanger I often use the sonitus delay before perfect space (canyon, cave, central station,...). (And my favorite giant reverb sound now is perfect space with a forest impulse, followed by perfect space with cooling tower impulse.)
