Bliss Remix...

Ok, I promise this is the last iteration of this song. I just made some changes based on the suggestions I received here and wanted to get anyone who will to comment. I don't like the drums and the whole things feels a little lopsided to me. But I do believe each instrument comes through the mix better now. So, hopefully, I'm learning and training my ears a little better as I do.

rwreynolds - you have a good song and the vocals are good.   Not a fan of the pad, it sounds a little like one of those Band in a Box generated string parts.   The lead synth part is pretty cool.   I think if you get the drums cleaned up as a start, the rest will come together.

I like the way you arranged the vocals in this; the voices blend together very well.  I kinda agree with Mark about the string pad, but that's very minor imo.  The one thing that stood out was the crash cymbal in the left channel on the choruses.  I might audition a few more cymbals there, otherwise, this is on it's way to becoming a winner.

All the best,
Lynn

Thanks for listening and your suggestions Mark and Lynn...

Yeah the strings and drums are from Garage Band. They sound cheesy. The synth is a combo of several instruments from Arturia's Analog Lab application. I may loose the strings altogether and go back and build a midi drum track myself from using SONAR Session Drummer. I've gotten a little more comfortable with that.

I like the chorus Rick, the verses are very close to 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' though. You have a good voice, and you know how to harmonize. Look forward to hearing more from you!

Love this song! You have a great voice. The guitar chops are good and it all fits well. I left you a comment on SC.

The mix itself seems to lack some energy...by energy I mean dynamics and forwardness as compared to other similar mixes in the same genre. Not anything bad. Just needs a few adjustments to make it more present. Now I'm going out on a limb a bit in trying to give a more detailed view........I would bring the acoustic up more in the mix and give it some space in the stereo image if possible. Since the acoustic and voice  carries the music I think this is important.

I know many times a take is final and there isn't much you can do with it because of how it was tracked. If a retrack isn't feasible you still might be able to squeeze some more out of it using the stereo image and EQ. Same with the drums. I sometimes even put a limiter on the drum track depending on the mix.

Hope maybe I helped.Certainly a nice listen just as it is...but I can hear it being better.

Busted!

lol... Thanks for listening and commenting! And thanks for the compliments.

Yeah, the progression is similar to Knocking on Heaven's Door. I always do that. I'll get half way through writing a song and realize, OH CRAP! But I think it's different enough to keep me out of court when it makes the top 100. lol...

The mix itself seems to lack some energy...

That's exactly what I'm here to learn. I think this mix is a bit better than the first one I did, and that's based on suggestions I received on this forum. But it still sounds flat to me. I think to get much better it's going to require re-recording the tracks and possibly putting a little more consideration into my backing instruments. Strings, synths and drums... It's totally my song so I have the opportunity re re-record and change anything I like. The tracks were recorded way to hot and the soft instruments were just kind of thrown together. Based on some of the comments I received maybe the song deserves a little more attention and can be turned into something really nice.

At this point I'm basically using this as tutorial song. Taking suggestions and learning to implement them. Havin' a blast.

I like the song as well. It reminds me of CSNY. Great work on the song! I agree with the other comments as well.

The post saying the mix seems to lack energy explains what I hear.  Lotsa good stuff there but somehow it seems like there's no "punch?".  I have no suggestion for you except if there is a lot of compression that could be the problem.  I only know that from reading thousands of posts on here.  However, that could be wrong.  Anyway, good song.

Thanks for listening and the good words Warren.

I'm going to work on it a little more, and I think I'll have a little help with it. I'll put it back up when it's done and see if we got it.
