What FILTERING plugins do you recommend?
Hi All I used to use R-MIX for some filtering effects (eg taming a kick for the verse and then opening it up for the chorus) I can't get R-MIX working with SONAR X3 Producer (I just get a white screen in the R-MIX window) so I wanted to explore some other options I am going for a modern pop sound so would be looking to apply filters to mainly vocals and drums (my go to synths such as Massive and Sylenth seem to have enough filters built in!) I have Sonar X3 Producer and Komplete 8 Do I already have some good filtering plugins I haven't yet come across that would suit my needs or are there any others that you would recommend?

Have you tried re-installing R-Mix from your X2 distribution media? It should work just fine in X3.

BiFilter included in Sonar X3 Producer is pretty awesome and is pretty much made for this. EDIT: oh and is Driver also included in Komplete 8? It is in 9. It's pretty good sounding but you get more variety with BiFilter.

Thanks guys @CRAIG - Do I need to do any uninstalling of R-MIX or can I just run another (custom) install of X2?

Not really sure, it just showed up in my system. I suggest setting a system restore point, then doing a custom X2 install. If it works, great...if not, there's always system restore

I would move the "R-Mix SONAR Edition" folder out of the Vstplugins directory before attempting a custom install. This will provide confirmation the installer actually does something.

To be honest, while the OP seems to have made himself comfortable with R-Mix for this purpose, for simple/basic pop music filtering BiFilter seems much better suited and more versatile.

I agree. BiFilter's better than R-Mix IMHO for what op's trying to do. So +1 for that.

How about just automating the low pass filter on the Quadcurve? Or is that too simple?

Bare in mind R-Mix is no longer supported so a changing the plugin for something else (if possible) is probably a good idea. You should be able to use it in X3, although I've had limited success myself.

Hi Boydie. I've used the built-in channel EQ to great effect with a sweeping high or low cut but if you need to make quick filter sweeps, that doesn't work so great but I've used this plug-in with excellent results and it's free! They also do a paid for version with more options for little money but the free VST worked for me! http://minimalsystem.com/Store/index.php?route=product/product&path=61_62&product_id=50 Then there's this one which a lot of dance producers swear by and has been used a lot and now that it has dropped in price, is not a bad buy at 30 Euros! http://www.sonalksis.com/creative_filter.htm The best part about both of them is that they are incredibly easy to use. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Waves MetaFilter is pretty cool especially if you want to do things like automate a HPF on a kick etc.
