Moving a project over with auto lanes

Hi...more often than not I'll create a song and realise that I need to have a few bars of silence before it starts but I've pretty much finished and have added auto lanes for volume/frequency/delay etc control. However selecting all and moving it over does not do so for those lanes and I either have to redo the right time lines for them, or forget it.

Today I tried copying 'special' - it appeared it would select the lanes as well - and pasting special a few bars into the song...no that just reset all the lanes.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

PS. Learning point here is to always start a few bars in...I know I know!

Hi. Make sure you have "Select Track Envelopes with Clips" selected. That is in the Track View Menu under "Options". That should fix it for you, if not post back and let us know.

Hey...yes, that was the one thing I selected which I thought would do the trick...but didn't.

    Thanks

Are you selecting and click dragging or cut & paste?

Click dragging should move envelopes as well. Check there's nothing locked but that would affect clips so I doubt that's the issue.

When using "Cut Special" (or "Copy Special") make sure envelopes are included by checking "Track/Buss automation".

Okay thanks, will have another look at it. I tried both methods and I'm sure I checked 'track/bus automation' but I will try it again on another less important track.

If you select all, have "Select Track Envelopes with Clips" selected, and click+drag, the envelopes will move with the clips.

A simpler option might be just to put the cursor at the beginning of the project, choose Project > Insert Time/Measures, enter the number of measures, and make sure everything is checked under "Slide."

I always do this. Occasionally for no apparent reason something will not be moved even though all the boxes are ticked, but generally it works very well.

Ahh...I was looking for that...thanks Anderton, I'll give that a go but it sounds like it can have hiccups too.

You have to make sure that everything is selected. It's easy to go do something else and not notice that a track within an instrument folder became deselected or whatever.

Place the now time at the beginning, Ctrl + A, then insert - should work for you.

I always do CTRL+A. I can't really say when I get problems. It seems more complicated projects will sometimes fail to move markers or something. Mostly it works great and it's definitely more reliable than trying to select stuff and click+drag!

Ctrl + A and Ctrl + Shift +A have become totally automatic for me (along with Ctrl +Z)

Anderton's suggestion of Insert time/Measures has always worked 100% of the time for me.

The inherent danger of using any sort of drag/copy is that your markers/tempo changes/ meter/key changes don't always follow suit
