ACT driving me crazy...

Just can't get my ACT together

I know I must be doing something wrong ... I have a second hand Kore2 controller that I bought to start messing with SONAR.  Read and followed the SOS article written by some Craig dude  works really cool - I don't need anything too extensive so it's perfect.   Got is setup fine, the midi setup etc is all working etc.

Problem I'm having wrapping my head around ACT:  how do you get ACT to *not* assign default controls?  I pull up a synth or whatever and ACT already has defaults assigned - which I don't want. Then when I use the Act Learn button to assign to my controller I get a mess:  multiple knobs assigned to the same parameter, etc.  Is there a way to just reset ACT so I *only* assign what I want?  How do I *clear* an assignment so its no longer assigned to a hardware knob?

You can use my controller just for mapping (no In/Out or other settings).

For your last question (about cleaning), I do not know other way as removing related lines from XML file. But I do not know any reason to do that.

Thanks azsklow3 - it will take me some time to work thru that.  I followed the first quickstart and mapped to the track volume.  But I cannot figure how to map to an ACT synth control.  Is the a walk-thru on just how to assign a rotary to an ACT parameter?

Did you read my Sound on Sound article on ACT or the one in the Cakewalk blog? Also, did you do the one-time linking setup of hardware to ACT?

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Hey Craig - this one:  http://blog.cakewalk.com/act-with-hardware/#more-17200

I ran thru all the setup, KORE2 is sending midi / SONAR receiving etc just fine.

Except now I have (for instance) Sonitus Compressor R3, R4, R5 *ALL* mapped to "Release" parameter.  And I can't get rid of them.  Similar stuff on Dimension, Absynth etc where I have stuff with multiple "knobs" assigned to the same param and cannot disconnect.

I've tried removing / re-doing the whole ACT setup with the KORE but it's still there.  It's like I need to reset the data map xml file.  Can I delete it?

Ok - I moved all the xml files out of the App Data, then reset it all up.  Seems to be working fine now.  Still seems like it would be good to have a 'reset' ability on an already mapped control or a 'clear all'.

BTW - thanks for the article Craig.  I'm really loving the Kore2 as a nice little control surface.
