new Kicksville track: Pretty

Howdy y'all -

Here's this week's Kicksville release, Pretty: https://kicksville.bandcamp.com/track/pretty

It's a pretty song about something not-so-pretty: being homeless. Tone Deaf was living on the street when he wrote the two poems we combined into one for the song, but this isn't a preachy thing, it's just his oddly beautiful reflection on what it's like to be in a miserable situation.

Thanks for listening, and despite the grim subject, I hope y'all enjoy it!

cheers

Really good, a very different sound for me, and I liked it. Tone Deaf's poems really hit the mark, as you say, oddly beautiful.

I can tell the vocalist has put herself into this one.She songs very well. Nice mix about a truly sad subject.....Nice song construct. OK that sounds a little Vulcan.....how about I enjoyed it? :)
Thoughts on the male vocal- The mid rangey phone effect is too subtle IMO. It would be better if that effect were more pronounced. Just my subjective and sometimes wrong opinion :)  On this type of a song when another vocalist follows with a spoken type of message it usually has that rap kind of a poetic rhythmic cadence. In this case it could be my training before listening...I am accustomed to hearing that...know what I mean? In your song the spoken part is not as much like that which breaks away from a norm. Do you want to break away from a norm? I guess that's you call.

I love this song because it's so unique and creative.  The vocals are spot on, and the arrangement is really cool.  I look forward to hearing more of your music.

Again an interesting piece from you, I like the way you have blended the poetry and the singing.  Sounds well here.

Thanks, everyone! Sorry it took me a bit to respond to y'all....it's been a crazy week. I'm working on the music and sound design for a theatrical version of James And The Giant Peach, and production rehearsals started last week. Can't wait till this show opens so I can get back to focusing on the Kicksville stuff

So, yeah.... I really appreciate you guys taking the time to listen, especially since Pretty is one of my favorites from the current batch o' tunes. I've been thinking about posting a bass-only version so folks can hear my fretless bass noodles up front (I'll bet a lot of casual listeners think that part is a keyboard ), but it'll have to wait till I get this show opened. Anyhoo, I'll be back tomorrow with another track, and thanks again!

    cheers

Interesting beat. 7/8? I think the oddity gives it a sort of jumpy, as someone who is jumpy, feel.

    Well done! Great mix!

Thanks a lot, Gitpima! No odd time signatures in this one, though - just good ol' 4/4.

Interesting tune.  I love the singer and then comes the rap.  It's all really good.  What would this genre be called.  Gheesh, I love that gal singing!!  Strange tune but our tunes are always a bit out of the box(MarcusClinus," Clean", and me).   I don't know what to say, something about the song just grabbed me.

Great piece once again. Making disturbing subject matter impossible to not listen to.

I like everything out of Kicksville. I've checked out lots of tracks from their site now and every one I've heard is a top shelf tune. The rhythms are always interesting and there's always a lot going on in their tunes. And the mixes all sound great to me. They even have really interesting cover art.

Great players, fine vocals, cool talk/poetry/rap and interesting subject matter. I'm a fan. Can ya tell?
