Calling all successful ST3 installed rigs with migrated ST2.

I've installed ST3 up to the update.

Now I want to import all my ST3 (and variants, Miro, Sonik, Moog etc). MIro, Sonik, Moog & Tron (the IK stuff) is in separate folders so that part is cool. I think.

I read somewhere I'm not supposed to import ST2.5XL libraries. But, but but, I installed all my additional libraries in the ST2 samples folder and now I'm not 100 sure which is not ST2.5XL other than some obvious folder names.

What's the best technique for importing all extras (non IK branded stuff) but ST2.5XL schtuff? Reinstall ST2.5XL and extras from scratch (while keeping extras in separate folder)?

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your Sample Tank 3 installation. This is not a common occurrence so I suggest you give the guys at tech support a shout. They should be able to get you running in short order. Enjoy ST3!

Hey, somebody had to say it.

What are those extras? The Sonic Reality Expansion Tanks? Worst case if that's the case, you don't need to re-install 2.5. Just install those expansions anywhere you want and then import them from within ST3.

Incidentally, now that I'm done importing everything, ST3 works just fine (though a few expansions seems to be on the quiet side).

You don't have to import any SampleTank 2.5, it's all inST3. Best way is to build your folders the way you want them, then import one at a time. I had "Miroslav Outakes" so I just put them in Miroslav. I made XpansionTank Sounds and XpansionTank Grooves and the others like SampleTron. I had 6 separate folders. Just do one at a time. I f you get an error at the end of SonicSynth just ignore it. I reimported it a few times but got same message so I just clicked on escape or whatever the button said and it was there just missing 2 sound files. There is something about that on the IK site but I didn't care about 2 files. I figured I didn't need to hunt the Miroslav presets that are in ST3 and remove from Miroslav some may be there twice on my sample drive. Also it would be better to have a few folders than one big one. If you don't like what you have delete them, build how you want and import again. I would not build them on the drive they import to.

I am interested in how your progress goes Bapu.  I just installed ST3 a couple of hours ago.  I tried to install the Sound Library Update 1.0, but get errors about tree structure.

I plan on importing SampleTron, SampleMoog and SonikSynth as well as those numerous other IKM sound libraries--loops.  I am taking this slowly.

So post any progress and trouble.

bapu, when I get home I can look at my ST 2.5 installation and give you a list of what it includes. That way you can figure out what's what in yours.

As far as my experience with upgrading and importing, here's what I did:

- Installed ST3.

- Applied the sound library update 1.0. This gave me some grief. The first time I tried it I got an error that it couldn't create a folder. So I tried it again and got an error that it couldn't find the folders Marktree and Patterns. Apparently the updater deletes these two folders when it first starts, but since it had already deleted them the first time, it couldn't find them the second time. So I recreated the folders and tried again. Same thing: couldn't create a folder, then couldn't find the two deleted folders. So I ended up just manually copying the files from the update ZIP file on top of my existing installation and replaced any files when prompted. That seems to have worked.

- Imported legacy libraries:
  - Miroslav
  - SampleMoog
  - SampleTron
  - Sonik Synth 2. Before importing this I deleted the file 130BPM_ailing.sti as recommended on this page. It seems to have worked because I didn't get any errors during import like others have reported.

Upon listening to the imported libraries, it seems that many of the old presets don't translate very well into the new format. I checked out a random selection of patches. Several of them sounded just fine. But some of them sounded like they had an extreme amount of low-pass filtering applied that I couldn't figure out how to remove without actually turning off the low-pass filter entirely in the Edit page.

I also noticed that the behavior of Legato synth patches seems to have changed. It'a bit hard to describe but I'll try. For example, I was playing a particular synth patch (from Sonik Synth?) with legato voicing and with velocity mapped to amplitude and filter cutoff frequency. I would play the first note hard and hold, then play a second note softly and release, which would bring me back to the first note that I was still holding. In ST 2.5, the three notes sound: loud, soft, soft. In ST 3, they sound: loud, soft, loud.

It annoys me that many of the imported patches don't sound the same as they used to. Kind of undermines the purpose of updating to the new version, in my opinion.

You might also be able to just check the folder or file dates.

You can uninstall 2.5 xl once you have installed 3, then the only librays left should be the extras. I personally imported all the ones I own on day 1 with no issues, thought I did only have the add ons included in the total studio 3 bundle. You will also want to use the vst 2 version for now, there are issues with the vst3 plug in sonar.

Any decade now, I'm sure. It'll be 128-bit only, though, so you might want to stay on Windows 23 as long as possible.

If the latest version solved it I was unaware, I used vst3 at release and had issues so changed to vst2 and haven't felt the need to look at vst3 again yet, I honestly dont remember if it was notes holding forever or some notes not playing, one of them for sure :)

I don't believe the VST3 issues have been fixed yet, but AFAIK there's no advantage to VST3 vs. VST2 in this case. If you play with the VST3 using piano roll, you will discover the problem quickly.

Downloading the new patch now.  Here is what the release notes say:

Changes from version 3.0.2:

▪ Fixed a bug relating to the displaying of Pattern names
▪ Fixed a loop editing problem in Live mode
▪ Fixed a bug where note ranges between samples were not filled for user sample import using the "Name" option
▪ Other user sample and legacy library import fixes and optimizations
