Missing Plug-ins/ProChannel modules [Solved]
Hi Everyone, I wanted to share a solution to a recent problem I had with Sonar X3. I'm still not exactly sure what happened, but the first time I ran Sonar X3 after windows 8.1 was installed crashed and led me to re-install Sonar X3. Anyway, when I tried to open a previous song, I got a lot of pop-up windows for every Pro Channel and VST app I was using. Said it couldn't find the plug-ins CLSID and I had to click OK. First time I wasn't too concerned, figured it had fixed the problem. But no, next time I brought up the same song it would ask me again. A cakewalk search set me to knowledge-base article 2007013293. It described my problem to a T. Apparently its a pretty rare issue and it has to do, of all things, with NTFS 8.3 (short name) file optimizations. My NTFS 8.3 shortnames option wasn't turned on. The knowledge-base article instructs you to use the fsutil8dot3name set 2 to turn it on. Well on windows 8 I found that didn't turn it on. A search on Microsoft's site led me to fsutil8dot3name set 0. Apparently windows 7 had one way and 8 has another. And that is what I wanted to share. Cheers
Edit: added [Solved] to subject

Wow. Computer-based recording sure comes up with more interesting problems than "my string broke."
