[Solved] Sonar X3 VstScan "Can't load Module" error

Hello everyone (1st time poster here).

I am running X3 and trying to install some 3rd party VST synths. During the VST Scan process, I'm getting this "Can't load Module" popup with an "Okay" box. Each "Okay" then leads to the next Module it cannot load. This then repeats on an infinite cycle until I use Windows Task Manager to stop the VstScan executable. Specifically, I'm getting this on a fresh download of Drumatic 3. Strangely, the modules that the error dialog is reporting don't even exist in the plugin's zip file hierarchy...so I can't figure out why the scanner would be calling for them...either that, or therein lies the problem.

I think my VST Scan Paths is all set correct...all my native plugs are working and I was successful in getting other 3rd party VSTs working, such as WONKEY.

Anyone seen this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and/or advice.

Cheers,

Tom

What are the paths defined in Preferences > File > VST Settings? The paths are recursively traversed so is it possible the scanner is finding non-VST dlls?

I have two scan paths indicated, in the following order:
    c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins
    c:\program files\common files\vst3

Does the scan fail if the new folder containing Drumatic is removed from the scan path?

I would add, if this is a new upgrade to X3 make sure to run the VST reset and rescan process. http://www.cakewalk.com/S...ommended-for-Upgraders

    I just downloaded drumatic_3_02.zip
Created ...Cakewalk/VSTplugins/Drummatic and unzipped the download into the folder.
The plug-ins scanned OK (I am using 64bit SONAR, the plug-in is 32bit) and loaded into a new project.

In the past I have seen the scanner fail on previously scanned plug-ins and this could be happening here. Usually the scanner gave enough information to figure out the offending plug-in. Sometimes a reset and rescan fixed it. Sometimes, I had to move the offending plug-in(s) out of the scan path, get a scan complete and re-add the offending plug-ins.

Have you tried running Sonar as Administrator?  (Right-click on Sonar shortcut, then click Run-As-Administrator).

Alright. Well, after basically trying everything above, I got it working!!! I guess some plugs can be fussier than others.
    So, in summary, I did:
Deleted the folder in vstplugins and redid the unzip process,
Restarted OS and ran Sonar as Administrator,
In VST Settings, forced a rescan on existing plugins, then forced a rescan on failed plugins.
The VST scan cycled through all my plugins several times, hung on Drumatic once, which I forced closed and then suddenly after passing through the process again, scanned properly.
I have no idea exactly what in these steps did the trick, but thanks to the help, I was able to hit the magic combo I suppose. Now it works great.
I wouldn't normally fuss so much over a specific plugin, but it's for a collaborative track and I really wanted to get the synth working so I could tweak things and not have to go back and ask for the audio.

So, cheers everyone and thx so much for the help and your time.

Glad you got it going. Consider adding "[Solved]" to the subject line of the first post. It helps everyone know the thread has been resolved.
