Copying just parts of clips

Hi all.  I'm working on mixing a live recording and thus the .wavs I imported are a few hours long.  The thing is, I want to single out specific songs and copy/paste them over into new projects so I can really take the screws to them.  The problem is, when I highlight the sections I want and paste them they show up as the right length (about 4 minutes) but all the extra stuff comes along on either end (Of course it's not visible, but if I drag out the clip it's just everything along with it) so the dang file ends up being GIGANTIC.

Does anyone know how to deal with this?  How do I copy JUST that four minutes of the song so that I can feasibly work on this thing?

Thanks!

    Two options.

    1. Select the Clip and choose Clips > Apply Trimming.
    2. Separate the long file into separate clips. Then choose Save As... to a new folder and check "Copy all audio with project" and "Create One File per Clip." The project's audio folder will have each clip as its own file.

Just to be clear option #1 is performed in the new project trimming the copied tracks, not the original project.
