paulo This post belongs in the songs forum. Can one of the forum hosts please move it to the appropriate forum? TIA
Beagle paulo - your interpetation is a little different than what we have been interpreting in the past regarding self-promotion of songs in the songs forum. however, if you think the rule has been broken then report it. send a PM to Willy or Ryan if you wish. they are supervising the hosts. If they feel I have overstepped a rule here then I will lock the thread and not do this again. I'm not a snitch, never have been and not about to start now. Nor would I resort to playing Mr Reasonable in the public area whilst sending threatening PM's behind the scenes, but I guess we're all different eh ? I'll say whatever I have to say in full view and stand by those words. What I was trying to establish in posting my request that the thread be moved to the forum specifically designed for such postings was to see if the "forum hosting" was going to be applied even handedly. Question asked and answered - no it isn't. If you can explain why it is perfectly acceptable to use the CH to post a thread specifically to draw attention to an existing thread in the Songs forum, but drawing attention to an existing thread in any other forum is worthy of snotty PM's threatening bans for being in breach of the CoC I would be happy to hear it right here in this thread, but the fact is it is exactly the same thing. To be clear, I don't particularly care about "the rules", I don't really care who breaks them and I didn't feel there was any need to have "hosts" to enforce them, the forums were fine as they were, but it's not my forum, so we have to live with it and just hope that the "hosting" would be sensible and applied equally to all members, which it certainly hasn't been to date. So far, I have had a thread in the CH moved to somewhere deemed more suitable by a host while other similar style threads posted by hosts (coincidence?) have been left well alone, been told what words I should and shouldn't use (we're not talking swear words here, just regular words), been told when to stop discussing a subject with others and now had posts deleted that were doing exactly the same thing as yours ( and others) deleted and threatened with a ban if I did it again. All of this by people who before they had their little badges on had very little direct interaction with me and whom I very much doubt would have said anything at all beforehand. For any viewers now preparing their popcorn and getting comfy for the duration, don't get excited. I've made my point and that's it. I'm not even angry, life is too short to be angry about an internet chatroom, I'm just disappointed. When yourself and Bapu did your little self exile thing a couple of years back because someone said that maybe maybe Am, becan and constant bufoonery were getting a bit boring I defended your respective rights to pretend to be a dog an for Bapu to be.......well Bapu, so the behind the scenes threats and locking your thread before I had chance to reply to your posts feels something like a stab in the back to be honest. My first reaction to news that we were be hosted was that it was bad form and unworkable to have rule enforcers who regularly break the same rules. Nothing I have seen in the short period since its inception has changed that view.

Paulo, I do not plan to make a big deal out of this and I don't plan to attack or argue with you over any of your concerns or points. You are very well welcome to voice your opinion without retribution.
I do wish to point out, however, that I locked that thread you linked to above, my own thread, and did so before you wrote this thread. It was done at the same time as the other threads which were removed earlier today and I did it to respect your concerns over CoC rule about posting in multiple forums.

Let's take this seriously. Paulo has a concern and may be afraid that some forum members are more equal than others. Now he says: "It's not my forum" He does not like rules and rule enforcers. Now I believe the foremost duty of a host is making the members feel welcome and treat every forum member with the utmost respect. Every forum member is king as long as he/she behaves respectfully towards others. Wrong postings are minor issues. Can we agree on that? Or should I post this in another forum?

Personally I regard any shameless plugs here as "social" posts in accordance with the friendly nature of the CH. And in that context I find them entirely appropriate here. YMMV.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

IMO, the only even handed approach to anything is an automated rule based system. Humans are fallible, right? Why? I believe it is because at any given moment we make judgement calls based on any number of factors (the least of which is whether we like someone or not). Today I could be offended by any single word, phrase or image by someone I like. Tomorrow I may feel that it is the funniest thing in the world. The next day it can be meaningless. Who here has *never* done that before? Some (here in this forum) in the past have accused CW mods as being unfair. So if they can be (in anyone's mind) why will the current (or future) crop of hosts not also be equally prone to human behavior? Oh yeah, I know why. Because someone (and by that I mean anyone) thinks that's not the way it should be. I will be happy to discuss this with ANYONE offline (PM or email if you have mine already).

I think all apparent TOS violations should now be punished by "wedgies." I'll leave it to the elite, upper management to determine who administers the penalty and the severity (standard wedgie, power wedgie or an over-the-head wedgie). We're all adults here, it's time to start acting like one, ya?
