[RESOLVED] Sonar X2a - media Browser not showing VSTi in default Instrument list

Hello.  I am using Sonar X2a (64 bit).

I have just completed installing a plug-in (Trilogy - bass VST instrument (32-bit)) on my computer.  While the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager displays the Trilogy folder and .dll file, the default list of Plug-in Instruments in the Media Browser window does not display the link to launch Trilogy.

I know it is possible for me to use the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager to make an additional Plug-In Menu Layout (and I'm assuming I can get the Trilogy plug-in link to show up if I make a new Menu Layout).  But this is a PITA: it's a PITA to make the new menu layout, and the default menu layout is going to show up by default and require me to load a new menu.  So I would rather just have Trilogy show up in the default menu of VSTi.

Can anyone tell me how to get Trilogy to show up in the default Instrument menu layout?  (Interestingly, in the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager, there does not appear to be a default Instruments menu, only a X2 Producer Effects menu.  Yet, the Media Browser Instruments list shows all my other VSTis).

Thanks.

    Sonar X2a - VSTi not displayed 2014/10/18 09:24:30 (permalink)
    Hello.  One of my VSTi is not displayed in the list of VSTi's in the Media Browser.

    The missing VSTi (Trilogy) is displayed in the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager - both the Trilogy .dll file and the correct file path are identified in the Plug-In Manager.

    How do I get the VSTi to be displayed in the Media Browser?  Equally important, how do I use the VSTi if I can't launch it from the Media Browser?

    Thanks

    Some VSTs get "hung up" or fail during the scan if they haven't been activated yet.

    Launch Trilogy as standalone, activate it, then try the scan again.

    I joined your two threads about this issue. No need to have more than one. I bet the plug-in is there hiding under the name Ruby. Starting with X2a a new variable VSTPlugInNameFormat was added to Cakewalk.ini to control plug-in names. The variable is documented here http://www.cakewalk.com/D...;help=INI_Files.4.html. IDK why the vendor assigned the VST name Ruby to the plug-in.

    Hello.  Thank you for your replies.

    I have already successfully authorized the Trilogy plug-in (indeed, the VST Scan was hanging until I launched Trilogy by itself and completed the authorization process).  And Cakewalk Plug-In Manager recognizes that Trilogy is installed on the computer, and correctly identifies the .dll file and the .dll file path.

    So the Trilogy is installed, authorized, and recognized by Sonar.  It just doesn't show up in the list of VSTi presented in the Sonar Media Browser.

    There is no instrument or name "Ruby" in the Sonar Media Browser Plug-In Instrument window.

    It is not clear to me how the VSTPlugInNameFormat is helpful for this problem.  From the linked doc:
    "This variable specifies how VST plug-in names are formatted in the Browser, effects bin context menus, and anywhere else VST plug-in names are displayed. The values are as follows:
    0 = VST Name
    1 = DLL Name
    2 = VST Name (DLL Name)
    3 = DLL Name (VST Name)"

    My problem is not that Trilogy appears with the incorrect name or format.  My problem is that Trilogy does not appear at all in the Media Browser Plug-In Instrument list.

    My error, I read Trillian, not Trilogy. Since the scan failed originally on Trilogy, you may need either rescan failed plug-ins or reset and rescan. I would choose, reset and rescan. These options are in Preferences > File > VST Settings. After running the rescan, reset the scan options, you don't want to scan failed plug-ins or reset every time. The "Default All Plug-ins" layout is built on the fly and includes every valid plug-in available to SONAR.

    Hurrah!!  It worked.

    So I went to Edit -> Preferences - VST Setting, and clicked on Reset VST Setting (and clicked on the confirm button), and then clicked on Rescan VST Folders.

    Now the Trilogy VSTi appears in the Media Browser Plug-In Instrument list, just as I hoped it would!

    Thank you scook for your helpful reply.
