Guitarhacker
Nice, nice work.

I would use the word "lush" to describe the instruments in this.... Loved the inversions and bass not playing on the root in a number of places.... bells are perfect.

Really well done.  I could see where some soaring, singing , wailing (as you say) guitar could fit into the early parts of the song.... Kinda a Santana Europa sound.... singing sweet smooth gain.... BUT.... what you DID play in there is super tasty, so I wouldn't be sweating over what could have been.

Thanks Herb! Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out, and you get exactly what I'm talking about with your Santana reference, though I was thinking a bit more bluesy.

Dan

Very well done.

This is exactly what I love to put on the iPod and play at work when I need to focus and blow through a pile of work.

Perfect.

It's hard to really expand on what others have said. You did a very nice job on this Dan. Love the feel of it. I thought the guitar parts sounded fine, maybe a touch heavy on the delay at times, but still sounded good. I liked the organ part as well(I just bought VB3 a couple weeks ago. LOVE IT!). I agree that maybe the sax could come up a tad. But overall the mix sounds excellent. You should be proud of this. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Bob!  I will likely boost the sax a bit, but only enough to uncover it a little more. I don't want it to compete with the guitar parts   After I was done recording the guitar parts and started mixing, I realized that the printed delay from the guitar was creating a timing feel issue. I should remember to record the dry signal as well in the future. I had to do some surgery using a parallel delay line to solve that one, but it did get away from me in a couple of spots.

Dan

You were worried about the guitar playing ---- really  ---- sounds good to me!!!  This number has a great laid back feel, good production, good performance, and is very tastefully done. I love that bass that IMHO carries the song along.

Thanks Freddy! I wasn't so much worried as I was wanting it to be better than it is, if that makes sense. I know my limitations as a player.

Nice mix and quality arrangement. Maybe the soundtrack to a remake of planes, trains and automobiles - the picture made me think of Steve Martin and John Candy :)
