Dude seriously didn't like the album.

I almost said that they could have used a room full of monkeys with typewriters (apparently, it took up to 5 song writers on a single tune too produce some of their drivel) but then he brought Nickelback into it.

Is this another sub-genre of country music?

Mix country and rap and you get...... "CRAP"

In a band I was in many years back.... someone in the band early on....as we were looking for a name.... said....  hey, since we play country and rock,  why not call the band KRROCK... Get it?  country and rock.... and somehow, the rest of us thought it was nothing short of brilliant.....lacking any better ideas for a name on that particular day....  and so it was duly named.  I'm sure it doesn't take a big imagination to realize all the jokes that name elicited from everyone.... bar owners, other bands, and even club patrons.... all of them had fun at our names's expense... but that was one money making band.  We used the double "R"s in there hoping to avoid the obvious connection..... but that didn't really work.

I was thinking more along the lines of a county being a sub-section of a country so county music must be a sub-genre of country music...

Prior to relocating to MN and with the exception of Johnny Cash I never listened to Country.  After moving out here to the upper Midwest I have discovered that folks take their country very seriously and like rock, the different styles within the genre have very serious followings and (at least from what I have observed) the divide between the fans of the different styles is pretty serious bordering on crazy violent.

I will say that the musicianship of the bands that I have been out to see over the last couple of years is top notch ... almost every drummer has been smokin' good (whatever that means) and able to effortlessly play at tempi that I can't touch.  Most of the bands have been out of Texas and have an "old school country" lineage (my apologies for the cliché and not that I even would even be able to identify old country let alone old school with the exception of maybe the Carter Family).

Last spring we did go out and catch a band that I would categorize not as country/rap but more like country/rap/metal.  Not my cup of tea to the point that when I walked out I was wondering where the freck I lived (certainly not in NJ anymore).  But, I will say the place was packed and the fans (a younger crowd) were rabid.

Well, I guess you have to first consider this album as being a country music album in order to answer the thread question.

These guys are part of a sub-genre of CW called "Bro-Rock". Guys like Jason Aldean, Eric Church, etc have fallen into this category. Just a fad, and like most fads, it sucks! Guys like this pander to the lowest common class of CW, and that's the young country cowboy wannabees.

I had a listen. It just sounds like the kind of utterly pointless sugar-pop-rock that sounds like it's being played over FM radio even when it isn't, but with a vague country tinge.

Criticizing a country song for the use of cliches in the lyric is like criticizing English poetry for the use of English words. Aside from the unique and cliched instrumentation (anything played with a dobro and a banjo is de facto country even if composed by Mozart), the use of cliches seems to be the hallmark of the genre. Of course part of the problem is that it is one of the few genres in which the lyric is distinguishable at all.

Obviously I am not a fan of COUNTRY music. Nonetheless I greatly admire and listen to "country" bands and singers in preference to a lot of mainstream popular music. Probably this is because what is now included in COUNTRY is what I was used to hearing played as ROCK & ROLL in my youth...only with a dobro. Sometimes, given the vast volume of writing and performing talent thrown at the country wall, some of it sticks.

And in fairness, there is nothing in this lyric that is either a typical CW cliche or difficult to understand or relate to. What is surprising is that somehow COUNTRY fans seem to be able to relate to a lyric that does not spell everything out in fourth grade diction and Dick & Jane construction.

    http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/floridageorgialine/anythinggoes.html

I am not going to listen to the whole album. Just because the poetry in this one song is not cliche ridden does not mean it is particularly good, and the music is pretty COUNTRY-BANAL.

btw Taylor Swift is one of my favorites...but I agree, clearly not COUNTRY.
