Strangers in the Dreamworld

After focusing for a long time on composing music for my choir I finally got my head back in to writing gold old electronic tunes. Enjoy listening:-

Generally it sound quite good here though the lead piano is a bit to ephemeral and could do with comeing up a tad, for me, and the to the floor beat seems to lack a little bottom end weight.  This is just the opinions of a furry alien it is your tune and yours to do as you wish.

Yes does sound very well produced. The only thing that bugs me is the artificial drum sounds. Nice tune.

I left a comment on SC. Nice ambient combination with a beat and it all fits very well!

Thank you for the feedback. It is appreciated and helps to see if one is heading in the right general direction in the production process.

Wookie - I was on the fence about the piano myself and may well revisit this over the next few days as I have some time away from the wonderful called 'work'.

gusrogers - By artificial drums I take it that you mean the electronic tone of them. One of the tracks I am working on may be more up your street although the acoustic drums are filtered slightly.

Starise - Thanks for leaving a comment on SC :)

I actually agree with Gus. Really like it except that drum tone. Nothing wrong with an electronic drum kit, but that kick sounds too weak for the rest of the track. It should be driving the song forward.

The problem with the drums isn't just the tone, it's that they don't sound like they are part of the mix. They have a completely different ambiance than everything else in the mix. Otherwise, it's a really well done piece.

Ok - first of all - not my kind of music - this kind of stuff always sounds like movie soundtrack to me. But, with that said - this is a really nice clear mix good dimension. The instruments are well played - I enjoyed listening to this.

Ah thanks for providing more information about the kick drum, I will see what I can do over the next few days. Incidentally this was mixed using Softube Console 1, which to my ears seems to apply a nice character to the sound.

New mix uploaded, kick drum has been tweaked and piano turned up a notch. Also changed the drum loop that comes in over the sequence at 2:15.

That does sound better the piano is still ephemeral but now present.  Contrary to what you may have been told a tiny tad of reverb on you kick can help it sit in the mix, but just a tad.

    Hey

    Thanks for sharing.

I like the song, and like the piano:)
I am not that keen on the drums, as others also has pointed out, even after the updated version. Its a bit of a 808 kick type, but it lacks some of the "umph" factor. Would be nice to hear it with something more acoustic , like Native Instruments Acoustic Drums. Or the other way around, more punch and clarity. U might also consider to implement variations on the drums (rolls, etc).

Yeah, I do agree with the above...   I really like the dreamy parts and think they mesh well with each other, but the drums are very up front and in a different space.    I wonder how they would sound with a bit of hall reverb followed by a low pass filter, and/or layered with acoustic drums...

Fair comment about the drums. I will have a play with this when my hearing gets back to normal, as its not a good idea to play with things like that when you have a cold. :)

I don't think the drums glue well with the rest of the mix - especially the high hats.

When the mix is at its fullest (eg starting 1:03 and again starting 2:52) its very congested and indistinct in the lower mid range.

After seeing a few of these electronica songs set to video I have formed the opinion that without lead instruments, vocals, etc., video is necessary for context.  Dance clubs are another way to put the tunes in context.  People dancing is like a video.  Standing alone, most electronica leave me wanting.  Your music is good and production is good.  This is just my opinion as far as the context thing.  It might not even make sense to anyone else.  Thanks for posting.  Hey, what's a biodiode?
