Sausage Fattener

Has anyone played with this plugin?
Looking at the artist credits and the price, I figured it might be worth a shot. The first time I tried it, it just sounded like a volume boost (it increased the signal levels) but after playing with it a bit, it's kind of nice. It's a very simple plugin (2 knobs and a level control) and it seems to do a nice job of fattening things up once the levels are normalized. The Fatness control chunks up the sound and the Color control seems to control the brightness.

    Yup, it's a combination limiter/clipper/harmonic exciter. Lots of people love it. I didn't. But then, squashed and distorted just isn't something I normally shoot for. If you love what Boost11 does, you'll probably like Sausage Fattener even more.

    I have the Sausage Fattener and it's great. Like most other things of this ilk, its effect can range to a very subtle amount of thickening to all out wave-sausaging. And also like most other things of this ilk, it's not something you'd want to slap across a master bus (unless it was a very tiny amount) and it's not something you'd want to slap across all of your instruments. I don't see a problem with reducing the dynamic range of one or two instruments in your mix, as long as it's contrasted with more dynamic instruments. It's a great on a drum bus to add a little meat, just crank it up to 10-15%. It's not going to sausage any waves at that level.

    Surprisingly enough I've never heard Pensado endorse the Sausage Fattener, which is surprising given the number of plugins he endorses in general. I did once hear Eli Krantzberg (of Groove3) sing it's praises.

    I tried that thing years ago - wasn't particularly impressed. It just didn't do anything I couldn't do anyway, and I don't necessarily go for super-squashed sound .
