[CWBRN-26182] - Console View - Instrument Tracks Disappear

If you have the console view set to not show MIDI tracks, instrument tracks are also hidden.
To duplicate:
1. New project (Normal)
2. New MIDI Track
3. Console -> Strips -> uncheck MIDI (the MIDI track disappears from the console view)
4. Add a soft synth to the project (anything will do)
5. Route the MIDI track to the soft synth.
6. Select the MIDI track and the soft synth Instrument track, right click and select Make Instrument Track.
Expected result: The Instrument track remains visible in the console view.
Actual result: The Instrument track disappears from the console view.
It seems that the joined instrument track is having an identity crisis. :)

The workaround is to leave all tracks visible but then the faders for MIDI tracks that aren't Instrument tracks are visible. I normally disable MIDI track faders and hide them in the console so I don't get level surprises from my soft synths.

Thalnks. Awaiting on cakewalk on how to generate a problem report number. In the meantime you could use the problem report form on their website and post it here.

Cheers

Any word from cake on this? This has been a pita for a while but i was too preoccupied / lazy to generate my own problem report. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up. The way sonar shows midi activity as a meter makes this a bigger issue as it is difficult to use console view when you can't reliably hide midi tracks.

Nope sorry as per #3. You will be notified in this thread if anything changes (or supply a problem report number here). Sorry no ETA either, we are still awaiting clarification from Cakewalk. Thanks.

I guess I would think of them as being a combined midi and audio, so to my little brain it kind of makes sense that they would get lumped in with midi tracks that have been filtered out from being displayed.

Problem is that they (instrument tracks)  have an audio meter (only) in console view. Cake set up 3 different filters (audio, midi, and instrument). But, if you de-select "Midi", standalone midi tracks as well as instrument tracks are removed from the display. IMO, Cake should either eliminate "Instrument" from the filter selection, and treat instrument tracks as Audio tracks (not MIDI) in console view, or use the filters as they appear to be intended - ie, de-select "instrument" if you don't want to see "instrument" tracks. Then, "MIDI" would only work for "MIDI" (standalone) tracks.

This was filed as problem report CWBRN-26182. Just reviving this as it has come up as an ongoing issue in Platinum:

Hi-

I started a new project in Platinum and had no problem reproducing it. Here are my steps:

1. Insert Addictive Keys as a Simple Instrument track.
2. Insert Strum Acoustic as a Simple Instrument track.
3. Insert a new MIDI track.

The Console View > Strips has Audio, MIDI and Instrument strips checked and all three are visible (Addictive Keys, Strum Acoustic and the additional MIDI track.)

I unchecked MIDI and all three disappeared.

Thanks-

Was kind of hoping this would get resolved soon - I must be one of a small minority that likes using Simple Instrument Tracks. I typically use SIT's for any simple synth, and split when I need to. However, an issue with WAI that requires selectively hiding MIDI tracks to get ACT to work properly (so only audio faders, not midi are assigned to a controller fader) bumps up against this bug.
